I downloaded some .avi files and it won't play on my PC. I have he newest DivX codec, but am I missing something else. I have been using DivX for sometime now so I was wondering what other codecs I might be missing.

Do you have the newest version of xvid and divx? Of the top of my head I think divx is at 5.0 and I cant remember what xivd is at right now. Also, it might be your player. To get all of mine to play, I use a combination of three players, windows media player, divx player, and winamp's media player. Some only will work proporlly on one of the players. Hope this helps.

The XviD Build I use is XviD.Root.24.02.2003.1100 and I haven't had any problem playing or encoding.

http://umaniac.leffe.dnsalias.com/stable/XviD.Root.24.02.2003.1100.exe

It's the most recent stable build of XviD that I know of. If there is any other newer stable versions that I don't know of please tell me.

To my knowledge, there are three stable version's right now. They're almost the same, just three different people making them. So if yours works, stick with it.

Try grabbing a program like GSPOT(PC) which tells you which codec is used both video and audio then go hunting. there ather codec detectors so go googling O.K.

Thanks DJB! I have been trying to get avi movs to play for months on my PC, now that my box is out of order. XVID did the trick.
