Well not so much an issue as more me being a technotard again

I went out and got myself a 2nd hand 120GB HDD Very Happy

I get it home and notice that theres a built in bit in the jumper part?
after a little confusion i work out that its a MAC drive?
but im thinkin well its all the same once its formatted right?

so next i undo the side of my comp so i can plug it in
when i find out the the connection i was gunna use is for a floppy drive and is too short for the ribbon
all other connections are SATA and as such really really to short for a ribbon connection

is there some way that i can connect it to my xbox and set it up/format it via that

oh this is a softmodded box by the way

thanks for reading
sorry for takin up your time

Ok, just to clarify a few things...

The drive you've bought you think is for an Apple Mac? Mac's use IDE interfaces, newer ones SATA. Same as pc's basically.

Second, why were you connecting a floppy cable to the drive? Are you saying that your PC has no IDE interfaces?

What version is your Xbox? If it's a v1.0 - v1.5, you wouldn't even need the PC to complete the upgrade. You could use a program called Chimp to clone the old one onto the new HDD. (Tut for that under my sig).

Fill us in on those questions and we'll go from there. Very Happy

it is a mac drive but as i said i wasnt that fussed as i was sure it would be the same once formatted
its a Maxtor 120GB ATA / 133 HDD

what i ment was that i had seen a ide connecter in my comp but hadnt taken much notice of it
so just assumed that it would fit a HDD ribbon
finding out it was for a floppy drive was a bit dissapointing
(i was never trying to make it work with the HDD)
and yes im saying my PC has no ide interfaces (except for the floppy one)

Does anyone know if you can take the xbox drive out of a modded xbox, put it in a computer, and and use something like Norton Ghost to create an image backup of the modded hard drive. Also, is there any tools you can use for browsing the file system on the xbox?

The Chimp tut sounds fairly straight forward, however I would like to create an image file on my hard drive.

Well there is a way but if you have a softmodded hdd then you have to be extremely careful with it.

You can search google for a fat32 file explorer and then perform a hotswap (look in the tut section for info on how to do this) and then u can just dump the files on your computer hdd....OR if your xbox is already modded just hook up through the network and rip everything out via ftp (refer to the tut section if you dont know how to ftp) chimp would be the best bet tho to clone a hdd.
