I'm using the newest smartxx chip. I have the newest xbox i think. I bought it a month ago so I assume so. I can not get any new hard drive to work. The chip works. I can load games onto the hard drive that came with the xbox. I took a hard drive from my friends modded xbox and it will not work in mine. We tried the western digital hard drive I bought in his and it worked but not in mine. We tried a new bios (blue, xecuter, and another one) but made no difference. He said it is because my hard drive will not lock but we just do not know why. Any help please?

Hi jesse,

For your friends XBOX HDD to work in your XBOX you will need to first UNLOCK his HDD using his xbox and the tools (complex tools, xboxhq ai, config magic etc etc).. Once its unlocked you can then install it into your xbox and it will work im sure!

If you CAN boot backup games, apps and autoinstallers from your XBOX DVDROM drive then this means you can upgrade your HDD easy.

All you have to do is this:
1. Download the XBOXHQ AI
2. Unzip the file so you have a .iso file
3. Burn this .iso file to DVD-R/CDRW using Nero or DVDDECRYPTER etc
4. Now boot it in your xbox with your modchip acivated
5. It should boot to a menu

IF IT SHOWS THE MENU THEN YOU KNOW YOU CAN CHANGE OUT THE HDD AND INSTALL A NEW ONE.. MAKE SURE THE JUMPER SETTINGS ON YOR RETAIL HDD MATCH WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW ONE!

6. Install your new hdd *brand new
7. Chooes 'format and partition' from the menu
8. Now just follow the .PDF TUTORIAL which comes with our XBOXHQ AI and you will find it very easy.

Basically all you do after the format is PREPARE HDD's and then copy all the programs your want by selecting them in the menu!

EASY!

l8r bro and hope ive been some help.

cheers,

forahobby

You cannot use other HD's from friends Xbox's on your machine. His HD was locked to his motherboard with the information being stored in his Eeprom. There is no way to get rid of error code 06. That is the xbox saying that this HD does not belong to this machine.

You need an unlocked HD and need to put that on your machine.

Find a HD at newegg.com or best buy or wherever you want to purchase it and make sure it's lockable and unlockable by inserting the model number and seeing if other modders were able to lock it.

Once you do that, follow forahobby's advice on using the autoinstaller to do your dirty work.

sorry I was away from my computer. The hard drive is not locked he said. We tried it in my xbox first. It is still unlocked. We can use my original hard drive still with all the modding stuff. I backed up fable onto it. My new hard drive still will not work though.

We are not trying to get his to work in mine we are trying to get my new one to work in mine. It is new from a store.

That's an odd one, I'll see what I can come up with. You shouldn't have any problems with a WD HD

That is a strange problem, WD are usually very stable HDD's. I'll take a look around and see if I can find any other situations that are similar in any other forums.

There is always the fluke situation though, just be prepared that something might not be bale to be fixed.

Good luck

Yeah slayers is a good program, but DJB's xbox-hq auto installer is even better, has newer programs and apps on it.

Just download slayers, unzip it, burn it onto dvd-r, and put it into your xbox. It should come up to a slayers screen with options for you to pick from.

Let me know how it goes for ya

Whats it do when you turn on the xbox without anyhting in the dvd drive? With a blank disc in the dvd drive? Or with a game disc in the dvd drive?

What it sounds like to me is that it isnt reading a bios. Like you just installed the chip and havent installed a bios yet.

Give me some more info on this and well see what we can do for ya
