Hey. im new to modding. and i wish to reduce the size of my xbox so that it fits in my car with me screen. Iv heard its quite easy and im a pretty practical person so i have no problems with cutting/sanding etc.
I found a tutorial (not in the tutorial section) on here but none of the pictures seemed to work.
Thank you so much

Sorry. iv been looking at so many different websites trying to find a tut. also it might sound stupid but what do you do about the cd/dvd drive in a slimbox. do you need a slimline on or do you just copy the games to the hard drive. is it possible to slim it down and still keep a drive.
thanks

Ok first you cant keep the dvd drive. Also you have to change out the fan because the stock one wont fit any more.

The disk drive must be a xbox drive and the one in that video is just an xbox disk drive with the casing removed, you even hear the disk scrape the case when he closes it.

great info. thanks for helping. how would you suggest i mounted the drive and also if i cut along the drive to slim it ( i heard this was the place to cut) how would you then change the disc in the tray. how easy would it be to copy all my games to a hardrive and access them from there. I have never done anything like this but really want to. im also a bit of a noob when it come to the internals of a PC/xbox so i need to be told in depth. im not having a go saying that you guys are vauge btw. i just wasnt sure if you knew how much i need to learn.
thanks

With the price of a replacement drive I'm not sure i would use a disk drive at all and i never made one but i can say cutting the disk drive any ware is not a good idea.
If i was you i think i would just start out doing the xbox mod and learning all about it first, i have modded a lot of xboxs and can say a slim xbox is not the best way to learn about them.
Was you planning to use a chip, TSOP or soft mod?

Iv just got a 160 GB hard drive from ebay. i was going to put that in using CHIMP. then copy all my games with DVD2box and i obviosly would need a dashboard so maybe unleashx. the reason i wanted to make a slimbox is that i need to slim it down about 15mm or so to fit under my car seat.
What im thinking now. is remove the dvd drive and put in the 160gb hdd and then use a dashboard to select which game i want to play. i also assume that if i keep the dvd drive at home, and buy a new game i can still whip the top off, copy it. then remove the drive again right?
also. do you happen to know the file size of copied games. how many i could get on a 160GB drive plus dashboard and saved games etc.
If you could reccommend a dashboard that could fit my needs that would be great.
Thanks for the help. i think im learning slowly

The keeping the drive at home idea will work and is the best option since the disc would skip and bang around in a car any way as for how many games and stuff will fit on a 160GB HDD its hard to say since some games are less then a GB and others are 7.xx GB.
My 300GB xbox held 98 xbox games, nes emu with 5000 games, n64 emu with about 60 some games, atri emu with every game, ps1 emu with 3 games, snes emu with over 100 games and the XBMC dash with a whole lot of Apps.
I guess about half that or so.
As for the dash to use the only one i will use and the best out and only one still being updated is XBMC.

Once you got it modded you can add files that will make it over look that.
Or if you chip it or TSOP it you can make it over look the lack of an disk drive.
