Howdy and Hello.

I found this site a while back and well just never took the leap. Im at a bit of a loss to what to do because well Im new. Heres what I have accomplished as of yet.

- Picked up a copy of Splinter Cell
- Picked up a 8meg Xbox memory Card, which has Microsoft stamped on it.
- Found Action Replay 1.05 for Xbox
- Hacked a Controller and installed a USB cord on the end.
- Found the USB drivers for the controller XBCDv107.exe
- Found the Memory Card drivers XBMemv01.exe
- Picked up Softmod.Installer 5.01
- I also have the Auto.Installer Deluxe 4.20 and the update 4.21

Observations:
- I have no idea what version I have of my Xbox since I don't see anythingin the System Info tab.
- I've never been on Xbox live with it and I bought it around 2000 or 2001
- I can use my hacked controller and operate the Xbox.
- I can connect the Xbox controller to my PC and it appears to detect the controller and the memory card just fine.
- When I click on my computer and view the memory card it says its not formatted.
- When I load up Action Replay and try to copy files from the SoftMod and the game save to the memory card it well doesn't appear to do anything.
- I can however save games to the memory card while using the Xbox.
- I can not see the game saves from the Xbox while using the Action Replay.
- WindowsXP

Questions:
- I was reading the Softmod manual and it saves to copy the game save files, which Im assuming are the .zip files for Splinter Cell and the Installer.
- Do I have some of the wrong files installed because things do not seem right. Maybe I have the incorrect Action Replay installed. It was only like 1.8 meg or so.

Anyways thanks for listening and thanks for any replies.

welcome to the site bro. hope you enjoy it Very Happy

first of all, you only need the memory card or the usb. i prefer the memory card. install the AR software on your computer which looks like you already have and plug the action replay mem card into your pc. you will also need the most recent MS dash and you can do this by putting in any xbox live enable game and going to xbox live. it will automatically update your dash for you.

if you're using splinter cell there should be two files that you need to drag and drop the the memory card. the SID 5 file and the splinter cell profile. i had to add one at a time then copy it to my hard drive then do the same with the other. once you have both files transferred from you mem card to you hard drive, put in the splinter cell disk. go to new game and select the linux profile. the sid screen should load up. make sure you create a ms backup and also backup your eeprom. very important that is.

once you get that far the rest is up to you wether you want dual boot or not. Wes213 made a great video tutorial i strongly suggest watching it before trying anything. but this should get the ball rolling for you.

here's wes's video, please watch this first! ::: http://www.360-hq.com/modules.php?name=Profile&op=myblog_view&blog_id=249&id=90842

Maybe I am confused then.

I used the memory card from the Xbox in my controller and Im trying to copy it via Action Replay is that incorrect?

I don't have the Action Reply hardware or memory card. I just hacked my controller to use a USB interface with my PC.

So it sounds like I need to hook up my Xbox to a ethernet cable and play a game to update my Dash it sounds. Man that thing has never seen a net connection, but if thats what I have to do then thats what I'll do tomorrow.

You don't really need to plug up to the net just put in a live game and act like your going on live and if the dash is not up to date it will update it.

In the system option of the MS dash this is what you want to see:

K: 1.00.????.01 (This doesn’t matter)
D: 1.00.xxxx.01

xxxx must be 5960 in order for the Soft mod to work properly.

Try looking this over and see if it helps with the AR software:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-194.html

Is your PC OS XP or Vista?

Ok, I'll give the dashboard an update using a game.

- This is what I did to my controller. Not my photo, but an example
http://www.ocmodshop.com/images/guides/usbxbox/DSCN6071.JPG
- Im running WindowsXP
- On that URL you gave me every link on it is dead so it was hard to see the examples, but Im guessing either you need to do what I did or I put the wrong end of the USB plug on my controller. Embarassed

- So it looks like I need to use the female end of a USB plug so you can plug in a USB memory stick and then edit the action replay code to make it work.

Ok I caught the fact that you need to edit the file in the Action Replay and update the drivers in device manager. Embarassed

- I got the zip files to transfer to the memory card in the controller.
- Fired up the Xbox and updated my dash board to include Xboxlive
- Dash says I have a 5960 version

I tried to copy the Soft mod file and the game save to the hard drive from the controller, but there is no copy option just delete is it needed?

As well when I turned on Splinter Cell and hit the start game there wasn't an option to pick my game save "Linux"

Alright I'm a moron. Embarassed

I was clicking on the game saves not clicking over once to the right so I could use the copy/delete option.

After that it loaded right up and now I'm ready to soft mod. I'm going to play around a little bit in the soft mod app before I soft mod to make sure I don't break anything.

Thanks for all the help guys. I thought I had all the apps and info I needed, but apparently there where a few things I didn't understand and well didn't know about. I must admit I haven't turned on my Xbox in a least a year or two because of one thing or another and the introduction of the Xbox360.

I'm sure nobody will care, but I'll keep this thread alive and post up every bit of info I know and find during my little adventure just in case there are others that want it or find it.

Yes it is needed, no save exploit no mod man and as for how to copy it to the HDD thats covered in my video guide (1 min and 7 sec in to the video).

This is also coverd in my guide at (1min 42 sec) the exploit will not work from the card and must be on the HDD.

SIK gave you the link to the guide and you might want to watch it again.

Wes,

Thanks. I don't think you read my post right above yours with me saying I was a moron and figured out my problems. Embarassed

I think my problem was mainly based on the fact that I haven't used my Xbox in so long. I have however figured out nearly everything that I have figured out with just a day of searching around and reading on this site. The site has been more than informative.

No sweat I just wanted you to know I do pay attention to what you guys type and I'm really grateful for the time you devote and offer up.

I'm sitting in front of my Xbox and I'm going to watch your video a few times and go through the steps with it. Mr. Green

Wow, how embarrassing. For some reason I had the sound turned off and I didn't realize you where talking. hahahahah

Now I really feel stupid Wes.

Followed it click per click and its good to go. Thanks for the video Wes, I'm sure I could spend hours asking what each option does, but honestly I'm to new to care, but maybe a little later.

I do have to remove the backup per your video via FTP like you stated, but I'll tinker with that for a while. Laughing

Heres a summary of what I did to get mine running and just wanted to summarize just in case somebody else wants to use it. Mods of course feel free to remove/change things that you do not feel is appropriate for the site. I did not copy anybody elses work literally, but I did try and paraphase to explain.

-----------------------------------------------------------

These are things you are going to need to use/find.
- Retail Original Game Splinter Cell $4 at Game Crazy
- 8meg Xbox memory Card, which has Microsoft stamped on it $12 at Game Crazy.
- Action Replay 1.05 for Xbox
- Game Controller
- USB drivers for the controller XBCDv107.exe
- Memory Card drivers XBMemv01.exe
- USBview.exe
- Softmod.Installer 5.01
- Winzip
- Winrar
- Utorrent or another Bittorrent Client
- Windows PC running XP. I'm sure Windows2000 might work, but I have no idea about Windows Vista
- Xbox with and updated Dashboard if yours is not you will need a copy of Halo2 to update it

The reason you need the above mentioned items is simple. We are going to install a game exploit on to your Xbox using your controller. The exploit will then open up open up the file system so we can install an additional application that will allow us run various applications.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Prepairing the game controller and files

Heres what it looks like when your doing it. Click Here

1. First lets get all of our files so we can do what we need to do.
Action Replay
USB drivers for controller XBCDv107.exe
Memory Card drivers XBMemv01.exe
USBview.exe
Softmod.Installer 5.01 You will need a Bittorrent Client to get this

2. Now you have found all your files you are going to need to build your controller so you can copy the files from the PC onto your controller so you can use them on the Xbox. This is a great writeup that I found and I'm sure you can adapt your design buy cutting the wire in half instead, but this worked great for me. XBOX CombiCable **** Note **** Just becareful when you solder you connections because you do not want to put to much solder plug because you might cross your wires and or you might disconnect the wires from the plug. Plug your Controller into your Xbox and make sure it functions as normal.

3. Install the drivers for the Controller they should be the ones labled XBCDv107.exe. After the install try plugging in your controller and it should say "New Device detected and run though a series of pop up boxes. When it asks you where the drivers are tell it to look for its self. DO NOT give it a path. It will seem to run for a while, but it should find everything. Remove the controller and reboot the computer. After the computer reboots insert in the controller again and it might say its installing some new drivers because it is. Let it and tell it to look for the drivers again on its own.

4. Install the Memory Card drivers XBMemv01.exe. Plug in the memory card and just like the Xbox controller let it find its own location. It as well takes a while to find everything, but it eventually does.

5. Install the Action Replay software. Don't worry if you try and use your memory card and it doesn't find it. Its because we are not there yet. =) You might notice as well that you might have another drive in your My Computer. If you click on it, it will more than likely tell you that the drive is not formatted. Its because its not, but we will get Action Replay to work.

6. This is how we are going to get Action Replay to recognize your memory card so you can use Action Replay. Clicky

Here is a summary:
- Insert memory card
- Run USBview.exe
- Look for the memory card to the left
- On the right tab look for idVendor and note the last 4 digits after the 0x
- On the right tab look for idProduct and note the last 4 digits after the 0x
- Find the install directory for Action Replay and edit xbreader.ini. Default install should be C:\Program Files\Datel\Action Replay\XBOX\Drivers\xbreader.ini
- Scroll down and look for [_Devices_]
- On the top line "only" replace the last 4 digits of VID_ with your last 4 digits of idVendor previously noted VID_****
- On the top line "only" replace the last 4 digits of PID_ with your last 4 digits of idProduct previously noted PID_****
- Save the breader.ini file
- Open up the Hardware Manager via the control panel through the system button
- Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers near the bottom
- Right click on USB Mass Storage Device
- Update driver
- Use the install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
- Don't search, I will choose the driver to install
- Select Action Replay XBOX

7. Open up Action Replay with the memory card in your controller. You should be able to use the files from the Softmod installer. You want to copy the zip file from the folder to the memory card slot. You want Softmod.installer and the Splinter Cell NTSC file. If you look closely you should see a + and Linux after them on the files listed under the "Memory Card" slot.

If you have followed all of the steps outlined 1 - 7 and there was no problems you should now have a modified controller with the game save and the installer exploit on your controller ready to install.

Preparing the Xbox

In order to make sure your Xbox is ready you need to look at one a few things. Do you see Xbox live on your dashboard? You will see it right in your face if you boot up your Xbox no game installed. If you do not you need to insert a game like Halo2 and click on Xbox live and it will install the files needed. After that Check your dash board version by entering in the settings and look at the System Info. You are looking at some text that is scrolling and you want to find
K: 1.00.****.01 (This doesn’t matter)
D: 1.00.xxxx.01
xxxx must be 5960 in order for the Soft mod to work properly.

If you have the Xbox live on the dash and the 5960 in the "System Info" then your good to go.

Installing the exploit
Basically just follow the video previously listed up above. Click Here

One thing it mentions in the video is to backup your files via FTP. Connect a cable and enter into the new dashboard and setup your IP address and ftp in. You can see the ftp settings in the new dashboard.

So far thats all I know as of yet, but soon I will install the new files, which will bring new applications.
