OK I am looking for the cleanest, simplest boot method. Single boot (standard v virtual C) v dual boot.
All I will be doing with the modified xbox is installing xbmc (through one click install on the AID disc) to use it as a media centre (will want it to boot automatically to XBMC once the soft mod is installed and then I subsequently run the AID disc). I will not be playing any games on it.
Can someone verify that the best option for me would be standard single boot. Thanks in advance.

For you single boot would work fine since you wont be going on xbox live. I always put a duel boot on my consoles regardless if I'm going on live or not but it depends on what your going to do with the xbox.

Personally, using it as a media center I would go with dual boot with Sid5/Hacked Dash. This way you can do simple adjustments if needed by simply turning on the XBOX. Either way, it doesn't really matter. The only way you will go to any other dash besides the Hacked dash you pick, is if you use the power/eject switch to boot and you leave the tray open. Using the normal boot with the power button, you would never know you had a dual boot until you needed it. If you're not playing games on it, then you should look into making it a slim with possibly two HDDs for more media space.

Thanks for the advice.
As for the additional hard drives, I wont really need that as I simply use a long cat5 cable connected from my router to the xboxes (I have two xboxes in separate rooms connected to my router).
My PC has 1.5 TB on 3 hard drives so I have ample space so far!
BTW if I went single boot what is the safest option - standard or virtual C?

I would say YES. The cable connected to your XBOxes doesn't get in the way?

Your saying yes to what?

Virtual C is more safe because it makes it so that you can't delete your ms dash files, but if you mess something up its harder to fix. I think standard should be just fine for you.

At first glance I thought he was asking if standard with virtual C was good. I said Yes. I didn't see the "or". Sue me.

Using it as a media center, I don't see him running into huge problems. He's simply playing videos and games from another source straight through the XBOX. Its just acting as the host. Either one of the options will do just fine Mikey. Whatever you choose will do. The Virtual C sort of hides some files for safety purposes, like if you did decide you wanted to get on LIVE one day and don't want to redo your softmod.

You should always plan ahead to prevent future headaches. I'm not going to bicker back and forth with Darth on what's best becuase there is no answer to that. Thats why everyone has their own opinion. What you decide you are comfortable with is what's best for you. Like me, I never use FTP. I hate it. There are ways around everything.

Ok so either way is basically fine - thats cool.
The CAT5 cable is fairly inobtrusive even though one set has to go past one door frame and another set has to go through two! (2 xboxes linked up to my router doing the same thing - one in the TV room and one in my bedroom).
No desire for any gaming on it as I have a Wii for that or I could simply use my sons one (that makes 3 in total) so it will solely be a media centre nothing else.
Anyway thanks everyone for their input.

No Problem Man. I hope you figure out which ones best for you. I prefer a dual boot for the purposes I told you. Let us know what you decided to go with. You know you can get a wireless adapter to hook your XBOXes up. They sell for around $40-$50 on Ebay used. I'm looking into one myself. Come back with any future questions you may have. I've learned so much since I joined here last October.
