When putting ROMS on my Xbox do they have to be zipped or can I put the unzipped (.smc for SNES, .nes for NES, .bin and .smd for Genesis, .gba for GBA, .z64 for N64) files on the Xbox? The Emulators i'm going to be using are zsnexbox v3.3 (SNES), Mednafenx-nes v9 (NES), Neogenesis v22 (Genesis), Xboyadvance v21 (GBA), and Surreal64 XXX Beta 5 (N64).

I leave them zipped but unzipped will work just fine.

Are there any advantages of saving space by leaving them zipped, or does it even matter? _________________

Just saves space so if you have a ton of them they will transfer faster when zipped.

How much free space is on the Xbox's HDD? I know the 360 has a 20GB HDD but there's only 13GB of free space because 7GB is reserved for updates and stuff. I have over 2500 ROMS i'd like to put on my Xbox and i'm hoping they'll all fit.

That all depends, you might get them on there but you wont fit many N64 roms thats for sure.

There's one last thing I forgot to ask.
Is it true the name of the ROMS can't be more than 42 characters and contain a " ' * $ # @ ! ? > <

One other thing...
All my N64 ROMS are Z64 files and they all have .z64 at the end of their names. When I try deleting the .z64 from the end of the ROM name a message pops up saying "if you change the file name extension the file may become unusable". So if I delete the .z64 extension will the ROM still work or will it become unusable?
btw i'm a complete n00b to all this emulation stuff as you can probably tell.

There is no if about it, when you delete the .n64 from the title it will no longer work.
