You need to replace the cheap thermal paste under your heat sinks and place a small heat sink on your MCPX chip, I had one that overheats and this is what I did, I also increased the fan speed and cut out the metal mesh behind the fan to provide better air flow. all is well now. CaptainJ

Are you sure the fan is facing the right way, pushing air out and not pulling it in?

I think he doesn't have his fan turned up high enough. _________________
I never had an overheating problem but i also replaced the heat paste on both heatsinks and added a 12v fan and have the original fan at max, so like they said i would go with them options _________________

The number one cause of overheating most of the time is dust. Plain and simple. Try cleaing the xbox out especially blowing off the motherboard and the power supply. Also take your fan out and clean that bad boy until it is sparkling. Then cut the mesh that is in front of the fan and then set your fan too 100% in options and see if that helps. If it doesn't then you can try messing with your flux capacitor. I mean thermal pasting everything. Sorry but thermal pasting your xbox usually only succeeds in making it worse due to people going overboard with the stuff. Hope this helps. _________________

i dont have the tock fan anymore, i bought a blue led one and set it to 50% on xbmc. the mobo is cleaned and dust free...the only other possible thing i can think of is that i have a cyglo light ring connected to my xbox to light up my jewl...could that be what might be causing it to overheat?

It is always possible. Anytime you add those kinda things you are going to have heat generation. That is just the nature of the beast with light effects. Try unplugging it for awhile and see what happens. Also I would just try running your xbox fan at full 100% to see what happens. _________________

You said you replaced the fan, is it pushing the air out of the box or pulling it in?
Since you did the 12 volt fan mod setting the fan speed in your dash wont help since the 12 volt fan mod forces the fan to run wide open all the time.

i hooked up a 12v fan to my stocked xbox, and it is loud, but it cools much better, microsoft is terrible at keeping stuff from over heating like da 360

so the fan is supposed to be blowing inside the xbox or sucking the hot air from the xbox and blowing out?

It will pull air in from the sides of the xbox and push the air out the back, so if you blow smoke at the fan it wont pull it in to the xbox.

ok, im gonna double check when i get home...but if im not mistaken the way mine is setup is to suck the air from the outside and blow it into the xbox.

2/6 of my xboxes have a silent 80mm blue led pc fan in them, plus they run at 100% all the time so my xbox is cold and quiet! _________________ My Xboxes >>> http://uk.youtube.com/profile?user=XBMCXBOX <<<

ok so i changed the fan to blow and put it at 100% which now i can hear it running during xbmc but if i go to play a game it stops running for some reason. it only runs during the xbmc dash. is there a way to make it run during gameplay?
