Hey,
As its your first post, welcome to the site man.
In response to your questions:
1. Xbox v1.0-v1.5 have MFG Date (manufacturer date) up to may 2004. Consoles with a later MFG Date are 1.6 version or higher. To be more certain you can check your video chip brand. Open your console and check your board, the video chip is located right behind the RGB/AV cable input. If you have Xcalibur written on it you have a version 1.6!
You can also find out which version you have by checking the serial number on your xbox console, examples :
Serial XXXXXXX 30205 = v1.2
Serial XXXXXXX 31205 = v1.3
2. This depends on whether you're planning on doing a hardmod (which will require a chip) or a softmod (which requires a copy of one of the following: Splinter Cell, Mechassault, 007 Agent Under Fire and a memory card with game save exploits). An action replay may be required if you have no way of getting the gamesaves onto the memory card.
In either case, you're going to want a copy of Auto Installer Deluxe (hard and soft mod) or Auto Installer Deluxe + SID (softmod only).
For further details on your chosen method, just ask.
3. Different people will give you different answers. The common ones you'll here about are XBMC and UnleashX. I myself use EvoX and swear by it. In the end, it comes down to personal preference. Burning games and running emulators have nothing to do with the dashboard, as these are done by seperate applications.
4. HDD is the hard drive actually, and stands for Hard Disk Drive, as it always has. HD stands for High Definition.

I would reccomend unleashed for starters because yeah it is really straight forward and in a nice format that anyone can catch on too, especially when you switch it to a skin. (Green is the best one on their^_^) _________________ RastaCalavera

If you want a top of the line chip then get the X3 CE. If you want a good middle of the road chip then get a X2.6 CE. _________________
