Hello there guys. I have a 5.1 surround sound setup with an inbuilt decoder. I currently have Optical from my Xbox to my decoder and the sound comes through that fine. However when I go to change my sound preferences in XMBC it will only allow me to select anologue and not any of the other Digital options !.

Any idea why ?

Thanks guys.

Try hooking it up with the rca or componit cables and see if that will open the options up.

Well actually I was wondering if it was because my RCA sound jacks are also in my tv which may then activate anologue by default. I may have to try unplugging them to see if that makes any difference at all.

However if that does not work I will try what you say...however kinda defeats the object of being able to use optical lmao.

No the Optical wire is 100% ok as I have been using it and everything is fine yet XMBC does not pick up the fact I am capable of digital audio...its no biggy but I will have another tinker tonight.

Audio Hardware
Audio Output
Allows you to select between Analog and Digital audio output. Note that in order to use digital output, your Xbox needs to be connected to a compatible receiver and a supported AV pack.
AC3 Capable Receiver
Select this option if your receiver is capable of decoding AC3 streams.
DTS Capable Receiver
Select this option if your receiver is capable of decoding DTS streams.

Well the thing is ...I have all of that lol. I have a Konig Advanced AV pack with Optical out and a DTS decoder yet I cannot switch between Anologue or Digital...infact I click on up and down but Anologue will remain..I dont even get a digital option if you get what I mean.

I am puzzled as I have everything needed lol.

I downloaded the GUISETTINGS.XML off my Xbox and I made a few edits to customize it which worked great. I also found the Audio section with various lines of code put in and I am wondering is there anyway to enable Digital audio somewhere on a config file ?

Thanks.

Yeah it will be but I was wondering if I could force enable it as such , however I do not nkow what line to edit lol.

What confuses me is that some state you need the Official advanced AV pack from MS for it to work....I have a 3rd party Av pack thats also a high def pack with Optical out..yet XMBC is still being an ass.

This is so annoying. I cant see why you MUST have the official Xbox advanced AV pack to enable the digital audio. I have all the compliant hardware but XMBC will not play ball with my kit. I have got a ''Konig'' HD cable with optical out but it does not seem good enough for some silly reason.

Any ideas guys ?
