Hey all. Later this week my new 160gb HD will get here and I'm getting ready to swap it in to my Xbox ver 1.0 running Evox on a softmod. I'll probably do it with a hot swap through XBOXHD. Is the size of the new HD an issue anymore? Some tuts don't mention size, others say larger drives need extra steps like formatting partitions. So what do I need to do? I'm not worried about locking it since I'll never go online but I do want to make sure I can access all 160GB on the new drive.
Will I need to do any extra steps? If so what are they?
Thanks!

If your running a softmod you MUST lock the hdd or it will not work, it is not an option ( im assuming you have a softmod since your not just using aid to make the new hdd).
When you make the hdd it should partion the C:\, E:\ and F:\ (up to 128 gig) on the hdd. Then when you start your xbox up again and resoftmod it you will need to use aid to partion the G:\ ONLY. Don't do a full partion, it will screw up your xbox if you do, you only need to partion the G:\. Partioning out the G:\ will give you the last few gigs out of your hdd. _________________

This has been laid out fairly well in a previous post.
However when it comes ot size of the HDD being an issue its not TOO much of a concern with the latest EvoX release as it has a virtual BIOS support for HDD's larger than 130GB +
I beleive I am correct when I say that however I may be wrong.
In the long run if you wished to defeat such limitations I really would advise going over to a hardware solution such as a Modchip. _________________ XBOX V1.6

Anything lower then 130 is no prob but even with a chip you hit the wall at around 250GB and will need to use 32k gluster setting in hdd partitioner to keep from currupting the info.
with 32k clusters the skys the limit and i have seen up to 1TG hdd run this way.

With the new bios and the 32k cluster setting in xbox partitioner you dont have a limit.
If you can buy it and its lockable you can run it in you xbox.

No problem here! There is so much information for modding spread around in nooks and crannies on the internet from the past 5 years that noobs like myself appreciate having this knowledge condensed like this.
I actually have a modchip on order so I can truly mod the box, although I don't see myself going any bigger than a 160 HD.

Yeah I know what you mean.
What Modchip did you order BTW? . Also if I could give you a hint it would be this. Whne you get the Modchip its always best to go with a soldered method than a solderless install. The solderless install is easier at first but in the long run can be a pain as the solderless adapter can come lose or out of place disabling your modchip essentially, there are varying problems.
Not all modchips have a solderless counterpart anyway. However modchips like the Xecutor 3 have a solderless adapter called the Xapter. I have not used it myself but reports are not all that great for it due to the points i mentioned above. _________________ XBOX V1.6

The xapt3r is much better than a hyperx chip trust me, those things are a pain. Have to have a lego holding the thing against the dvd drive to be able to have it even run. _________________
