Maybe 700k/sec is normal. I think I get about 10 mins to a gig. But my friend told me he gets like 3 times that speed.
Passive mode is turned off in my flashfxp.
Slow as heck.

I usually get about 9,000 kb/s using flashFXP, XBMC as dash, and a crossover cable straight from my computer. _________________

Wow dude, 700 kbs...thats crappy.
I'm using smartftp with unleashx dash and a ethernet cord going through router and i get about 10500 kbs on it.

Oh yeah??? 10,500kps????? My god man what are you using to transfer the information 2 cans tied together with a piece of string????? I get 1TBps using a superdiliiciousexpealadocious high speed thingamajigg cable with turbo turned on! Beat that Darth! _________________

lol, ur transfer rate depends on the type of crossover cable u use. There is a difference in a cat5e & cat6, the faster the communication speed the faster the transfer

Cat 6 wont help at all unless your modem works with it.

Well as far as I know Im using a regular LAN cable.
It's just wired between my xbox and my router.
Ive been using a short LAN cable while I had the thing in my room, next to my computer, while I was setting it up.
I just wired it yesterday with the 50 footer to its final resting place.
Both got the same speed.
Any thoughts?
Maybe it's my NIC on my PC, or rather lack therof. A month ago my inboard NIC crapped out on me on my PC. Since then ive been using a Belkin USB LAN adapter, which is edly 10/100 Base-t. It has all the updated drivers and it's running fine otherwise.
Could this be bottlenecking it? I mean, 100bits should theoretically go up to 12.5 megabytes, right?
Im going to get a new NIC one of these days but it must be something else.

You never said what FTP client you are running?
With flashfxp you got speed limits that you can turn up or down, have you looked for anything like that in your ftp client?
For flashfxp its in the option tab in the preference settings.

as a suggestion, unplug the dsl(phone line) from your router or whatever, your computer may be doing auto updates and searching the web doesn't help when transferring speeds. The router will split your communication speed as needed, so what I'm saying is when you ftp to your xbox, unplug the dsl, leave the ethernet cables in, set you tcp/ip as needed, and you should see an improvment. I know I did.

Hey good idea, I will try that right now.
Wes - Im using flash XP, thought I had put that in my first post. Ive checked all the settings and as far as I can tell there's nothing to change.
Short of delta's tip working, anyone have any clue? My router is only a couple years old, a wireless G Belkin. Ive tried everything I can think of with that, including turning off any firewalls, and forwarding ports.

Mine is a speedstream wireless g router, and my suggestion is what works the best for me. I never did any port forwarding for flashfxp, the only difference is I use a pci NIC card. Is your usb 1.0 or 2.0? I know that my front usb run 1.0 and the rear are 2.0. You might have to go into your bios of your computer and check what the settings are for your usb ports, and ensure that usb2.0 is on, and that the highest speed is enable(some bios have this setting, some don't so don't worry if you can't find it), this can do some bottlenecking if it's running on 1.0 due to data speeds. Just so you know I'm getting 10-11mb/s doing this. What OS are you running? If you're running Vista, make sure it's only the tcp/ipv4 you're configuring, and I've always found setting my ip is better than relying on the dhcp settings.
Hope this helps out a bit more.

Oh, the amount of computers I've had to configure for other people, but yet there are other's who know more than me. It's all about trial and error, I've got a msi motherboard and a asus mb, and the differences are amazing on they can be set-up. Too bad the best of both worlds can't come together and make a great mb!

Thanks for trying to help me.
First, I tried disconnecting the WAN cable, the wireless connections, and everything but my xbox and PC, but this had no effect on the speed. I still top out at about 750kb/s.
Also, your suggestion about USB 2.0 was a good one, but I do have USB 2.0 running correctly as far as I can tell. I get high speeds when transfering between my mp3 player and PC.
But here's what i'm thinking - my USB ethernet converter is plugged into my Dell monitor, which is a USB hub. That's plugged into a regular USB 2.0 port in back of my pc. Im guessing that the hub might be bottlenecking. Then again, it doesn't bottleneck my transfers to my mp3 player, which I also plug into my monitor hub. I know this setup is really half-assed, but my NIC died during exams back in December, and I didnt have time then, nor have I bothered since, to buy a new NIC.
Last night, however, I ordered one from newegg. It's a cheapy with free shipping, but it's got like 90% 5 star reviews in well over a hundred reviews, and the reviews I paid attention to were by people who knew what they were talking about.
I figure no matter what it will indicate whether or not my USB hub is at fault. It was very late when I was doing this so I didn't try plugging the USB adapter right into my PC usb, I will probably do that tonight. I needed a new NIC anyway.
Im wondering if there is some underlying problem with my XBOX since I know there is at least something wrong with the MAC address given. That is, the MAC address in the XBOX system info wont work for the MAC address filtering on my router.
Thanks for your help, and I will let you know how it goes. At some point im going to try a direct FTP between PC and XBOX with my crossover cable.
