Hi, I tried searching on these problems. I have a un-moded xbox that has developed small black dot around the person (like Fable). Also I noticed some vertical lines on the demo video on the Halo disk for Halo 2. Just wanted to know if something is over heating or if it could be fixed.
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the HQ man, enjoy the site and checkout some of our sistersites like 360-HQ and PSP-HQ.
I cant say i have seen the prob you have on any other xbox so if you could it wold help if you can post us a pic of the screen .
Other then that you could try swaping out your cables or modding the xbox so you can see what your temps are hitting when its been running for a long time.

I thought it might be an overheating issue. The system was very dusty. I need to crack open the case to make sure I have all the dust out. You can only vac out so much from the outside vents.

LOL so true man.
Pop that thing open and get it clean, im sure it not still under warranty.
Just wanted to let you know from someone who has cleaned 100's of xboxes that you really want to get some canned air or a air compressor with not too much psi and really blow out under and around the motherboard. Ideally you want to just take all the stuff out of the box and blow it off individually.Make sure you get that fan clean and you might want to take a pair of snips while you are in the box and snip out the tin that sits in front of the fan as that really restricts proper exhaust flow. While you are cleaning it out take apart your drive by popping the lid off and give that a good blowing out and qtip the laser lens with isorpryl alcohol and then put everything back and you will have yourself one clean xbox. If that doesnt fix the problem then yeah you probably have some bad video cables. I don't know what kinda tv you have but if you have a hdtv this might be a excellent excuse to get you some component cables for your box. Good luck and let us know how it turns out and also welcome to the HQ! Remember that the only stupid question is a question not asked. _________________

Well all cleaned out. So far so good. But now my 360 just popped up with the RROD today. Got on the horn with Microsoft, and my cardboard coffin is on the way. Thank for all the help with the xbox cleaning. If any thing else arises, I will be back.

If the problem continues later you may want to put better thermal paste on the Cpu and Gpu, because that is also a heat problem. _________________

Looks like the xbox still has some video issues. Here is a pics of the problem. It's on the Halo disk The demo part. No problem with the movie video, just the menu screen. One some parts of the game, you will see some pixels around the laser fire.

If its only on the menu screen i wouldn't worry about it. If its all the time its a problem, but if its only on the halo 2 menu it may just be a halo 2 disk problem. _________________

Modore is this the only thing that is going wrong is on that demo? How does a normal game play? _________________

You see some pixels also from your gun fire on Halo. I also tried out Riddick. Here are some screen shots of the problem. The small black dots are in the game play. I am thinking that the video chip is hosed. No problems with the DVD movies. They look prefect.

If your video chip was hosed though wouldn't it do the same thing on dvd playback? _________________

Thats very true. I gave the box a great cleaning. I also took the DVD drive (Thomson) out and clean the lenses and drive. Everything was a thick layer of dust and crap on the whole inside. I made sure all fans inside where clean and running before I put it back together again. I also cut away the mental shield part in front of the fan to free up more air flow as you suggested. Made a BIG difference on the flow of air. Looked like brand new on the inside again. Any clues on what might be causing this on the games? Tried 3 different cables and 3 TV's with the same results. Just don't know if something became corrupted.
