I used an older pc with xboxhdm and I am getting that msg "disable automatic detection" which I did. I cannot use my primary pc because it is all SATA. Which brings me to the CHIMP option. Funny thing is last year my retail drive died and I swapped it out for a 20G drive and xboxhdm give me no probs at all. Now all I have are probs, I have been at it since late yesterday and no luck at all. The cable, when I connect it to the 20G drive in the xbox works just fine, using CHIMP with the scan IDE drives feature the cable works just fine. However, when I use the new drive as the primary drive in the xbox I get the 07 error code.

Gentlemen I want to express my sincere gratitude on all the assistance rendered by this outstanding forum and it's knowledgeable members. I had success on the HDD upgrade. I think the cable was the issue in that new HDD takes a higher cable speed than the stock cable. Now do I make the G: drive active? How do I make that extra space available. Thanks a lot for the encouragement and patience. All hail the Mighty XBOX-HQ!!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear you got it worked out man and im not sure of your hdd size.

Rule of thumb is as long as the F drive is under 250GB you dont need the G drive, just pop it in use aid to prep the F drive and make sure its showing the new space.

The HDD is 160G. What do I do to make all that space available? What app do I use? Do I format the F drive? Thanks for the help

One of the first things on the aid disc is format and prep the hdd so just go in there and format and prep larg hdd.
Then add all the stuff you want like putting the MSdash and your hacked dash on.
Then apps and games and such.

Hi There.

I am trying to upgrade the hard drive in my xbox by following the pirrup's guide upgrade hd with a pc (softmods) and I am getting an error "This machine is no xbox. Can anyone please tell me what this means?

for future reference please dont start a topic with "help" or Need help" try to include what you are talking about like for instance this topic title was "help" and it was dealling with a hd upgrade what you could have done was "help with hd upgrade" or upgrading HD help please" the reason for this is it will draw the people in that work only on hds and get things done quicker it helps us too

Thanks
JP

Good call JP.

I loaded aid on my xbox and yeah just go to format larg hdd and when its done put the ms dash back on the C drive and so on.

When all is said and done you can allways reformat and start again so dont fear messing up. Wink

My apologies regarding the topic name. But thanks for all the help. I have it fully running with 123G. That should be enough until the next upgrade. I will take all that I have learned in the last 2 days and utilize it going forward. Once again, THANK YOU ALL FOR THE PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING you have showed me. Great forum. I will go forth and spread the word.
