You may want to try running xboxhdm on the drive again. Did u lock the drive urself or was it already locked? Start ur computer up. Hit pause/break key. Hook up ide cable from XBOX to ur HDD and the power from PC to HDD. When XBOX turns on count to 8 seconds then swap IDE from XBOX to PC. This shoud unlock ur HDD. Hit pause/break again so ur PC runs into xboxhdm disc. _________________

If you need any help or advice on ideal HDD's, check the Hard Drives section of this website to see what drives our members have tested. It may help you decide which model to purchase.
last night i tried to mess with what I had still layin around. I have a mxtor 80gig that is listed here that says it can lock and will work. When i tried to the chimp method it freezes when i press ok on the third menu or so after i choose to copy. I followed final cloud's tut. so then i tried it the old fashioned way of making a new boot disk in this tut http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-185.html when i put in xboxhd it spits out a bunch of junk like searching for /dev/hdm and /hdb and /hdc then it says either shot down or "cannot find linux please enter linux disk"
This doesnt seem to be that hard and i seem to be doin everything i should be. Any ideas, i would really like to get this working without going and buying a new HD but i guess that might be my only choice

Whereabouts in the world are you? Perhaps if you're local to one of our team here they'd be able to help you out.

Anyone in that area that may be able to help hndakd out, just give a shoutout and hopefully we'll be able to get your Xbox sorted without you needing to buy a new HDD.
Have u created the boot disc for xboxhdm with ur EEPROM already? With ur PC set up in CMOS to boot to CD as primary. Unplug ur other HDD. Only have the HDD plugged up that u want to format for XBOX. Once the PC boots up it'll say hit any key to boot to CD. Then it should boot into xboxhdm. There are unlocking tools in xboxhdm as well once u have ur drive formatted for XBOX and set up drive as XBOX HDD then u can unlock/lock drive as long as ur EEPROM is backed up on that disc. _________________

i dont have to press a key to get it to boot from the cd. i also removed all other drives and then plugged in the one that i want to format. Im trying it now with a different hard disk that i had in my girlfriends pc that i know works. It wont get recognized by the program and it keeps asking for a linux cd after searching from a bunch of stuff.
