this is for anyone who wants
to be able to use xlink kai with out using a pc to run the kai engine,

i currently have this hack running on my linksys WRT54G
to do this hack you must download some new firmware which will give you some extra feature plus the ability to increase the transmit power of your wireless router, it is by far the best firmware i have seen.

Here is a link to Thibor firmwares. These firmwares are great! They have everything you need.
http://www.cctvwrapped.com/xbox/kai.html

Download the appropriate firmware for your router version. Be aware that there are two downloads per firmware version. One for users who are installing from FACTORY FIRMWARE, and one for users upgrading from a HYPER WRT firmware. Download the appropriate firmware and flash it to your router.

After you reboot your router, be sure to enable telnet via the "Administration" tab. Here you will also find a startup script button. Click the startup script button and input the following script.

USE THIS SCRIPT IF THE ROUTER IS YOUR GATEWAY!!

cd /tmp
echo "#!/bin/sh" > startkaid
echo "cd /tmp" >> startkaid
echo "if [ ! -s gokaid ]; then" >> startkaid
echo "wget \"http://www.ju1c3.com/kaistation_kaid\" -O gokaid" >> startkaid
echo "wget \"http://www.ju1c3.com/kaid.conf\"" >> startkaid
echo "sleep 1;chmod +x gokaid;fi" >> startkaid
echo "./gokaid -d" >> startkaid
chmod +x startkaid
echo "*/2 * * * * root /tmp/startkaid" > cron.d/check_kaid
touch crontab

USE THIS SCRIPT IF THE ROUTER IS JUST A ROUTER!!

route add default gw 192.168.0.1
echo "nameserver 192.168.0.1" > /tmp/resolv.conf
cd /tmp
echo "#!/bin/sh" > startkaid
echo "cd /tmp" >> startkaid
echo "if [ ! -s gokaid ]; then" >> startkaid
echo "wget \"http://www.ju1c3.com/kaistation_kaid\" -O gokaid" >> startkaid
echo "wget \"http://www.ju1c3.com/kaid.conf\"" >> startkaid
echo "sleep 1;chmod +x gokaid;fi" >> startkaid
echo "./gokaid -d" >> startkaid
chmod +x startkaid
echo "*/2 * * * * root /tmp/startkaid" > cron.d/check_kaid
touch crontab

BE SURE TO REPLACE THE 192.168.0.1 with your WRT54G's IP.

Props to Perkomat for the webhosting and the script.

THATS ALL FOLKS!!
Have fun, and maybe I'll run into some of you in Halo2 Americas.

*If you have any problems with the installation, Contact me via this thread

is that the only router that you can use, or is it possible with other routers? i've known about this, but just recently started to get back into kai, and thought if i could install it on any router out there, just gotta modify the firmware, etc...

There is a few other routers that can run the thibor firmware but i found the older linksys wrt54g works the best.
I think my linsys is a ver. 1.2 and i been running it for a few years now.

I have always wanted to use Xlink but my PC never let me. I went at it for days with someone trying to help me out and eventually our disagreements on what the issue was lead us to uhhh be on bad terms hehe.

I have a Westel versalink, is there anyway of doing this with that instead of a Linksys?
