Post subject: Question on FTP connect to Xbox - not completely working

Hi all, new user here,

I've currently been having trouble with getting my PC and (modded) Xbox to connect with one another. I've gone through all the guides and have done all of the steps required that should theoretically get the PC and Xbox connected. I have it setup and connected through a router. And the funny thing is when I ping my Xbox IP from my PC, it replies, so I know something right is happening. But when I use FlashFXP to connect, I get an error, copy and pasted from the log:::

As a bit of information, 192.168.2.65 is what I have my PC set up as, 192.168.2.30 is what I have my Xbox as.

[R] Connecting to 192.168.2.30 -> IP=192.168.2.30 PORT=21
[R] Connected to 192.168.2.30

[R] PORT 192,168,2,65,10,156
[R] 425 Can't open data connection to 192.168.2.65:39946

--------------

I also tried setting it up directly through windows from this guide http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-212.html, and when I got to the end I had similar errors. I'm completely stumped, any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'm still using FlashFXP as noted before. When you say to turn the settings to DHCP, you mean to turn "Use Static IP" to No instead of Yes i'm assuming? I tried turning that off and rebooting the xbox but when I did, the IP at the top of the xbox settings displayed 0000 and the line status was blinking saying no link. If there is something else I should be trying to do let me know, thanks.

Alright the DHCP eventually displayed, as I messed with something on the router and got it fixed.

I did manage to actually connect to the Xbox once after disabling a couple firewalls and I saw all the drives through FlashFXP! But i've since retried and its either freezing up or giving me errors such as 502 pasv is not implemented, or the connection goes and times out.

Are you sure all your firewalls are turned off cause thats prolly your problem. If thats not it I'd check and make see that your ethernet ports TCP\IP setting is set to have a static IP or if it automatically gets assigned an IP and try with it set to the latter if its not already set that way.

You need to go into the site manager under the options tab and turn off passive mode, make sure the box beside it is blank and that will stop the error 502. Wink

Turn that off and if you still get probs post the new data log to show any new errors. Very Happy

Well, I got it working again, this time on multiple connects. The checking/unchecking of passive mode didn't change anything for me, but it seems to be working as long as I disable my PC firewall. Oddly enough it still works when the firewall on the router is enabled. The strange thing is I did all of this before (minus the passive option change) and I was having trouble. It seems to be working now though. Thanks for all the help! Now, time to go read more on the forums so I don't make any stupid mistakes while transfering things to my Xbox hard drive Smile

the firewall on the pc will stop all connections to common ports such as port 21.

remember the firewall on the router is blocking access to your internal network via the public network (internet, WAN, etc), it does not directly block access to your pc unlike the windows firewall which will stop access to the pc but not through the router.

to check your secure go to this link

https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

and run the shields up utility. The first 1024 ports should read stealth or closed.
