This Westrn Digital HD has both 5vdc as well as 12vdc written on it. Which voltage is going to be used for the jewel LED? I've gone back to work now and haven't had time to work on it.

It will use 5 or 12, pick one and do your resistor math from there.
For the one i did i think i went with the 5volt and onley needed a 15 ohm resistor.

That's why I saked. I did the 12 and it indeed said 47 ohm. So I can just ick one or will the set up just pull what juice it needs?

Well if you did the math for a 12 volt power your best bet wold be to use the 12 volt wire to the hdd as your power.
