Alright, so I've noticed something...
My xbox's Disc Drive is horrid:(. It refuses to read 8/10's of all burned discs I put into it. On top of that, Games that ARENT burned like Metal Arms keep stopping and continuing. You can hear the drive stopping and starting every 5-30 seconds at most for many of the discs I use. for the most part, only my non-burned discs get through things like this easily and it doesn't do this to them, but with burned discs like my expiramental discs, won't read for some reason.
Now I believe its a phillips drive, not a samsung. So I have 2 questions.
1.) Is there a crack or something to fix my disc drive?"
2.) If not, is it possible to Swap it with another disc tray?
Any advice you can give is greatly appreciated. _________________

Yeah man you can order a replacement drive online or just pull a dvd drive from some other xbox.
Sorry there is no crack flash or firmware fix.
I think samsung makes a few pc dvd drive that work with xbox but thay need to be modded and there firmware flashed to run if thats what you was thinking about.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was the make causing the prob, I have a Philips in mine which reads everything I throw at it.
Like Wes says, just pull one from another box or check out eBay or something for a replacement drive. If you ask around here too, someone may have one for sale.

you can try cleaning the drive too, I've had luck fixing alot of xbox's that people sell cheap cause of a bad drive. A lense pen, for cleaning camera lenses, works the best IMO. Take the cover off the drive and clean the lens itself..be gentle, don't go crazy on it. A cotton swab with a little alcohol works too.

Good call morencyj we are so damn quick to hand out the sure fire fix we forget the ez might works. lol
I use the second option and Q-tip it with one drop of the alco.

Fixed it.
I don't know what fixed it though, the fact that I cleaned the lens, OR, the fact that I got the 2 inches of dust covering all the vents other than the fan off.
It still doesn't read all the discs I put in it, but Metal Arms works like a charm now. Some burnt discs will be picked up that weren't before, but most end up saying dirty or damaged, so I'm still trying to think of if I want a new drive or not. _________________

Thing is, I'm:
A.) Broke
B.) I don't even have a bank account, and considering I'm 17, thats a bad thing xD
C.) Pretty much with these 2 together...I can't order.
My only way of getting one is to ninja myself a drive from somebody else's xbox _________________

I spent 2 months ftping every thing , found out later the cables needed to be pushed in after i got a new disk drive.

Alright, found out one of my friends is selling his un-modded xbox for $20. My friend James wants the xbox but says I can have the disc drive, so before I even attempt that a thought ran through my head.
Since the xbox is unmodded, does this mean I have to mod it so that the drive can be used on mine or does it not matter? _________________

No mod needed just hook up the disc drive and your good to go.
