Old xboxes dont really need fan upgrades, its really only the xbox 360 that needs the upgrade. _________________

@ Darth:
Yes, it wasnt initially because of overheating i wanted to change it, but because it was so damn loud i couldnt concentrate about watching my movies. Then when i swapped i made all kind of mistakes and then it overheated. So thats the why.
Wow, this is turning into a regular cooling competition Im thinking of redoing the paste thing as well, just to see if i can get near you guys.

Defenitly try replacing the paste if you got the extra cash man it really does help. I think part of the reason my xbox stays so cool is I got rid of the entire metal casing. If you look only maybe half the side of it actually has vents and the arreas that do don't have very good placement. I also think that the metal case just kinda traps heat in all around. _________________

Unfortunately I had to put my RF shielding back in, I believe there are ground poinst that contact it on the bottom.. When I took it out it made some faint lines scan the screen.
Am I wrong about the contact points, and yes it made a difference with it in and with it out.. No I don't have air tv with bunny ears..
I have also found a difference in which way the fan is pointing.
If I face it to blow into the box it stays cooler than with it blowing it out of the box...
What about getting some blowers to mount under the DVD drive and have it blowing towards the PSU to ensure the airflow is pushing the heat fro the psu outward.... _________________

Thats weird was the xbox you did it to a v.1.6. Thats the ones always take the shielding out of and I've never had this problem the picture on my v.1.6's are crystal clear. I know that theres ground points on the older versions but I didn't think v1.6 did. Also if you could get your hands on a junk 1.0 mobo you could get the cpu fan off it and rig it up most likely. Has to b v.1.0 though since its the only one that came with a cpu fan. I've actually got a v1.0 to drop down to 78.5 degrees. Believe me its near to impossible to do. Also its always guaranteed to stay cooler with the fan blowin into the box since thats how its designed to cool, e.g. brings cool outside air in and forces the hot air through ducts on sides and bottom front of the Xbox. _________________

Sorry for the long wait, ive been messing about with BIOS for a couple of days niw. Things are looking pretty good. I programmed a new BIOS to run the fan at 70% speed and changed the cooling paste with some old stuff i found laying about. Now my load temp is around 46 celsius and the box is way more silent than before, so im happy and ready to watch my movies now.
Anyways I just wanted to thank you all for your help. You guys are the best.

Nope it just sits there until someone finds and and ressurects it..
sometimes i like going back in time finding old threads and adding any info to them that i can....
I'm happy that your not a noob in the fan world anymore...Once you take that leap of self faith it gets easier the next time...
i'm always looking for fresh new ideas for cooling the XB down.. I have a Fascination with getting electronics to cool down.... _________________

Well in that case you may wanna look into the rectangular fans theres actually two fans in the housing and mount one on each of the sides where the vents are Mantauk. Drops the temp like 10 more degrees easily. _________________

Your talking about the 5.25" bay fan module mod.
Yea I need to fin two of them and have an inward t o the DVD side and an exhaust on the psu side.. I've tested this theory with just taping some 12v fans I have and it really does drop it about 10F more...
Also i'll need to trim the Rf shielding to give better air flow where the fans will be mounted...(I know I know why don't i remove the RF shielding it is useless, well one, it messes with the tv a bit not much and second i think most people aroung me have bunny ears with crappy tvs....lol...lol...)
Another Idea is possible do a Jewel fan mod....If possible..I don't know the clearence _________________

There's a tutorial I saw on here for a spinning jewel fan mod and if you wanted you could leave the jewel off I guess. Also since you're cutting the RF shielding anyways just cut a large rectangle on the 2 sides so the air can flow through all the vents that are there if you do it'll be pretty much the same as takin it out. I'm not sure if we are talkin about the same fans for the side though the ones I saw are farely large and they had the side with the HDD blowin in and on the other side it pulled the air out. _________________

Yeah thats the mod I was talkin about but the one I saw had a fan on each side and the fans were larger. I might have to add the heatsink to the Nvidia chip, good find man. _________________
