open the xbox pull the chip and send me a pic of the pin header.
Then just set the chip back down on the header the way it came off.
From what little thare is on the net about the chip (since its an old chip) i cant tell but an X-2 chip might work on that header.

Yeah skip that man i just saw a pic of your header and i cant think of a single chip that will fit it.

You wold do well to find the same chip and replace it or get an X-2 or X-3 and use the solderless header.

Heres a link to the guide to see if it looks like something you can do.

Seriously have you tried the original 10GB hd to see if it has the same problem as this one? Cause it could just be an error on this HDD Also did you ever clear out the cache it was never stated you did so I want to find out cause this really might be the whole problem if you still haven't tried it.

Weird...this just happened to me. I was working on someone's xbox who was having the same problem...hopefully it can help you out. In his case, it was a broken pin on the harddrive. Check your harddrive out, or put the original drive back in. If its happening to both drives, swap the IDE cable..maybe you have a break somewhere.

Good luck!

I never cleared the cache becuase I assumed the cache was cleared when I removed the HD?

Anyway I put the AID disk in to see what would happen and it loaded but it took just as long to load as it took to load XBMC from the hard drive so i think that the culprit is probably the chip and not the HD.

I was thinking about getting the duo x2 chip becuase its cheap, anyone have an opinion on it?

Also, Im bummed that I bought a new HD for no reason, but this problem with the chip doesn't seem as pressing as a problem with my HD, its just annoying.

The aid disc takes a long time to load on any xbox, just how it is.

The duox chip aint a bad chip at all, it covers all the basic needs and a few more to boot.

you think it would be worth it to format my new HD and install software to see how it works?

Thats when the xbox is communicating with the harddrive...doesn't matter what you are loading up...AID on DVD or XBMC as your dash from the HD. I'm not saying this is whats wrong, but if you already swapped harddrives, swap the IDE cable from your PC just to rule that out.

Also. if your harddrive is locked, can you disable your chip? It should then boot like a regular XBOX and you will soon see if its a chip problem.

I used AID (what an awesome program, i wish i had know about it when i first got my xbox) and installed XBMC and all the other programs I had on my old HD and the thing works fine.

Im begining to wonder if it was just a cache issue. If I remember correctly I was playing Halo 2 before i had my issue. I dunno, Im just throwing out ideas cause id like an explanation.

Im going to make a seperate thread about flashing my bios.
