Mental note to self: Remember to move the ide cable out of the way from where the one screw goes in, when closing the xbox back up.
Arg!! I'm an idiot.. because I didn't do this and ended up poking a hole right through the ide cable with the one screw. Luckily, I have more cables to replace the bad holey one. Now I need to read through the one tutorial on how to pull the dvd rom out so I can get to the one end of the ide cable that's underneath and change it out.
Haha I thought something went wrong with the softmod that I recently successfully did until I opened the xbox back up and saw the hole.
This is a good thing to remember if you end up having to do a hotswap or changing to a bigger hd, ect.
I'm just curious, how many other people have actually done this?

Took me 2 1/2 hours to see i needed to turn it around.

Well, seems I have another problem. When I turn on the xbox, I can't see any video. Is it possible that maybe I put the ide cable in wrong?
Geez, and I thought this was going to be an easy change out and back to happy xboxing. I seem to make things more complicated than they need to be. Haha .. this sucks.

I dont think you can put it in any way but the right or turn it backwords but unless your drunk you wold know if it was backwords.
Check your RCAs and if you have a set try diffrent set.
Make sure you eject button ring is not falashing.

Unfortunately, the eject button IS flashing. It doesn't seem to be the RCA's. With the other ide cable that I had in (the one with the hole in it), I could at least see video.. it was showing an error screen. But since I changed it out, I can't see video anymore.

You might need to check all the spots the hdd and dvd hook to your mobo.
I could at least see video.. it was showing an error screen.
That error was prob caused from the hole in the ide.
Your new ide might be bad.

So you think the cable is the only thing that's wrong? Arg, I guess I'm going to have to buy another cable.. 'cause I don't have any more lying around the house.

Cant say for sure but the old one had a hole in it and it had a video feed you change the ide and no video, so my guess wold be the ide.
If you can spare the down time pull the one in your pc and try it to make sure.

okay, well.. I put a new ide in and I'm still not getting any a/v .. another thing to add is when I turn the xbox on, it makes noise like it's booting and then it pauses the noise for a second and then it makes the boot noise again and then starts to flash.

Could be your rca cables, when thay are not hooked up or bad youll get the flashing ring.
I feel this is something small we are over looking.

i just tried something and now i know for sure it's not the rca's. I unhooked the hd and dvd player and turned the xbox on.. and it sounded like it was booting fine with no interruptions.. and I could see it say xbox and hear sound. when i connected the ide to the dvd, it reverted back to no a/v .. could it be the dvd player? maybe?

With the dvd unhooked it will give you an error screen, unhook it and turn it on if you can see the error screen then thats the prob.

ughh.. i freaking got it.. i think maybe the ide wasn't connected properly or something.. but i unhooked it and hooked it a billion times.. and finally this time it worked.. i'm not touching it anymore.. i'm afraid I'll jinx myself.. haha i got it working though.. I probably didn't need to buy a new ide either.. oh well, it's good to have just in case i poke a hole in the one when i put the case back on.. lol .. i hope not. haha
I'm back to happy xboxing again! thanks for the helpsies.
