ok. I installed a modchip myself ages ago. Never did any dash installs or anything, simply used it to play backup games. I'm pretty sure I have an x2 (i think lite) I have a really old bios (x2.4983).
I want to do the following
update my bios (is this necessary)
upgrade my hardrive
use aid to make a media center out of the xbox
I'm new to the dash/applications on xbox so excuse noob questions
should I update my bios before i get started to get it out of the way? or is there an easy way to do it once dashes/tools are installed? or is the version I have really ok
I'm a little confused about unlocking my stock hdd. Should I used aid disk with stock drive and install some crap to be able to network it and unlock it etc then upgrade the hdd and do fresh installs with aid again?

not necessary but you should use the latest bios, i guess x2 5035 is the latest, someone correct me if i'm wrong,
you can update bios at any point, before, after app/dash install,
doesn't matter, only in some cases, like if you would like to gave a g partition
you should have all your hard drives unlocked, except if you use it on xbox live, you can unlock it with config magic,
you don't need to do anything to the old hard drive,, except unlock it and take it out, put the new one in , run the aid disc set up the new drive _________________ Xbox v1.0/1.1/1.5/1.6a

config magic is part of evox correct? so I'll need to put evox on the current stock setup? so basically what I should do is take aid dvd install evox and unlock drive and pop it out, then I can swap in a new drive and take my aid disk and do it again but now for keeps. do i need to update the bios to recognize a drive larger than 137, or does it matter now and I can still update it later to recognize the whole drive?
sorry about these questions im just a little confused about the process in a broad sense

the aid disc has an unlock too on it i think but if not i will have configmagic on it.
You dont need to reflash the bios just use the aid disc to run full instal with larg or larger hdd wich ever you have.
After you get it up and running you can use aid to update your bios to the new build if you want.

okay got it unlocked and just playing around with installing and ftping with the retail hdd.
all I got to say is this tool is amazing. I am a fool for letting dust pile on my xbox for so long. thanks for the helpfuls posts and thanks for this amazing tool!!
okay before i go crazy with apps and such, is there any issue with installing a drive larger than 137? or if i just plug in a spare 200gb one I have I should be good to go and utilize the whole space?
thanks again!

I installed them all on E:
I dunno what went wrong but i did just reformat and tried a one click and all is good.
now is there anything special i need to do before slapping my extra 200gb drive in here (concerning the +137 factor)?

Not that i can think of just use the one click install for a larger hdd and youll be fine.
If it dose muck out on you format and use large hdd install.

Its a lot better to start with a clean slate then fix a small prob that can take days to pin point.
