Hey all, hope everyone is well.

I used to have a small application that would easily rename large numbers of files to filenames that are shorter. My problem is, I have about 20 thousand roms that I want to FTP to a machine, but several thousand fail due to filenames being too long.

It's been a long time since I have used the app so I can't remember what it was. Basically, it would just shorten the name and not give it a generic name that would make the file unrecognizable to look at.

What I mean by that is, if I had a NES Rom named 'Yamamura Misa Suspense - Kyouto Ryuu no Tera Satsujin (J)' it wouldn't shorten it to a small obscure string leaving me wondering what the game is when looking at my rom list. It's not that I mind, but my buddy wont know what games are what when he looks at his NES game list.

It's super easy to rename bulk files with windows, however it just will take whatever you name the first file and copy that name and then simply add a (1), (2), (3), etc... after the name of each file. I originally tried just that with about 8900 NES roms. I renamed the first one NESROM and then all of them followed suit with an incrementing number after each file. I was hoping that when the NES emu looked to the rom folder it would look within the zip file itself and pull out the name of the game to output in the game list, but all I had was a crap load of NESROM(1), NESROM(2) yada yada yada yada filenames showing up on my NES Game List... that was a huge waste of time...lol.

I'm looking for some freeware if anyone knows of any off the top of there head. I have done some googling, but haven't had the time to really check out the results too thoroughly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any time spent on the reply!!

PEACE!
