Hi all. There's prob a very easy solution to my problem but i cant figure it out. Ok firstly my know-how on all things xbox is a little rusty as play on 360 now Embarassed but it still comes in handy for watching movie or TV files due to the speed of FTP.

I can transfer and watch the files no problem its where and how they're stored thats the prob.

As it stands i transfer my avi files to the games folder on my F:/ partition, which is the largest on the xbox. From there I've to go through file manager to get to the file, as i cant view them when i select play games on HDD on the dash. (Hope that makes sense)

Basically what I'm sayin is. If i select "play games on HDD". A list of games on my HDD appears which play no probs. So why cant i do the same with avi files.

I tried to create a folder on my F:/ drive called films but on opening the folder once I'd transferred. The avi files inside would't play.

Bit long winded but any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Even if i could send the avi files to the games fgolder and view them as thumbnails and play the files from there, that would be fine

hi,
im sure if u installed XBMC (xbox media centre ) as an application u could put the AVI`s in the `video` folder and view them that way, check out the xbmc website Smile

The reason you cant see the movies when you go to the games menu is that it only shows programs named "default.xbe". Asd for why they only play from that folder, I have no idea. Use XBMC as an app and you can see them in the videos menu.

I dont use it as the main dash mainly cause the file explorer is too damn complicated. I like unleash x's file explorer better and it plays music at start up.

If he's already got a dash setup and running the way he likes it, it would be pointless to install XBMC as a dash. The suggestion to install it as an app, and place the .avi files in the "videos" folder should serve what you need.

Hmmm. Getting bit wierd now. Reason being that as it stands I already use Evox as main dash and XMBC as an app.

I'm guessing i may have installed wrong, but as far as can remeber i used AID's 1 click install option.

Just hope this dont turn out to be a mammoth head scratchin problem. I still have nightmares from when 1st set everything up.

The dashboards are coming to get me AARRRGGGHHH!!! Wink

Thanks for help so far. Any ideas ?

Like Mr Cloud said, put the .avi files in the xbmc/videos folder. Then they should pop up in the videos folder. Later on when I'm near my xbox I'll check and see if you have to do anything, but im pretty sure they'll show up.
