Awesome!
That is truly good news!!
I can't believe your walmart has DL disks...I get those verbatim three packs from my bestbuy for 34.99
I have all the software you used, but I'll have to check my drive. It's the memorex 16X DL Burner...I just got it a month ago. I'll have to get the model number and cross reference to see what NEC model it is, and what firmware I have. It should be pretty much up to date, but I don't have any firmware hacks...nor do I hope I need any. I'm not real up to speed on DVD Drives, I just usually spend the money on the newest drives that come out in hopes that I can do all I need.

ANOTHER UPDATE
NOT SO GOOD THIS TIME
The game that i have backed up was working fine for first few minutes into it ,
then it started missing textures and load really slow ,
Bacsically the game is UNPLAYABLE ,
MY DUAL LAYER DVD BURN WAS A SUCCESS ,
I Extracted the iso from the burned dvd in my computer and then extracted the files from the iso to compare it to the files extracted from the oryginal iso
they were identical , so the burn was perfect and the dvd is 100% readable
what the problem is ..the SAMSUNG dvd drive can not read the DL dvds
i tried dvd2xbox , it reads the first layer just fine but then it gets to second and its pretty much useless , takes about 5 seconds to extract 1MB
I dont know how the other 2 drives will behave , ill test it whenever i get a chance ,
but for now stay away from DL for xbox games Unless u have your xbox modded with PC-DVD drive ,

Thanks for the heads up bobrownik. You're having more success than I am. I tried burning The Bard's Tale with the following configuration:
DRIVE : PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108
FIRMWARE : DEFAULT (not patched yet)
MEDIA : Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4X
SOFTWARE : Alcohol 120% 1.9.2 (Build 1705)
ISO SIZE : 5.29 GB or 5554 MB
BURN SPEED : 2.4X
XBOX DRIVE : Samsung
So far two coasters at AU$12.95 a piece :( The burn process seemed fine, but when I put it in the Xbox, it didn't seem to recognise them at all. If the Xbox tries long enough, it can work out it's an Xbox game, but attempting to play it results in a "this disc can not be read" message.
Seems to me that the DL technology has a way to go yet. I'm hoping there will be a DL DVD-R format soon. I've had better results with the -R format over +R.

What was equally disturbing to me is, I have successfully burned longer movies to DVD9 Verbatim disks...
They play fine in every DVD Player I own, but will not play in my xbox.
If there were a way to update the firmware in our xbox dvd drives with suitable firmware, I bet they would read no problem!

Last UPDATE on the subject ....for now .
i have tested all 3 dvd drives that xbox has to offer
with the DL Bards Tale dvd ,
and here are the results
SAMSUNG - can not extract the game with dvd2xbox
- game not playable from the disc
PHILIPS -extracts the game just fine with dvd2xbox
-game not playable from the disc
THOMSON -extracts the game just fine with dvd2xbox
-game plays well from the dvd disc
THOMSON has been tested about an hour into the game , everything worked well ,
SAMSUNG AND PHILIPS have problems starting right from the beginning of the first mission with the rat ,
THOMSON THOMSON THOMSON .........who would have thonk it?
anyways , if your dvd burner is capable of changing the book type to DVD-ROM use it ,
if anyone has the means to test ,post your results here and lets compare

Speaking of Thomson drives, I have an extra that I'm selling for $120.
Hey Bobrownik!
I've somehow messed up my desktop PC trying to install that DVD drive... it starts up fine, gets the desktop, then screen goes black, and it reboots... it'll even reboot if you don't choose which user you want to log on to XP with.
Any ideas????? I've tried putting the original drives back in.... doesn't SEEM to be a master/slave issue, but I dunno for sure... made sure I had a master and a slave on a channel... May have to bring it in to the local repair shop! Hate to resort to that! A sign of weakness! _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

i never seen a problem like that ,
might be a hardware confict , or maybe bios issue ,
i say set up the drives the way you want them , then format your harddrive and install fresh copy of winxp , if that doesnt help have your drive replaced , make sure you flash it back to stock firmware before you send it back
