My original XBOX was soft modded with the evox dash. I left for school and came back. My brother told me the XBOX wasn't wrking, I checked it out and every time I power it on, right after the xbox intro & logo comes up, a message is displayed. The message reads "XBOX Live is updating your system, please do not turn off your console" the message reads for literally 3 seconds and then a popup says "Cannot connect to xbox live. Please try again later." with an "ok" button. I click the ok button and then it pops up again...I click ok once more... and it pops up again and again....ect
I tried using slayer's 2.7 iso via a CDRW but the XBOX doesn't read it. All it does is give me the "Live" message
I have Flashfxp and a crossover cat5 cable, but I don't know my XBOX's IP address/password because I can't get to the dashboard to see it!!
I called the 1800-4myxbox # and the lady said it was a hardware issue..
I don't really know much about whats going on besides this...If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it (I've been researching all day).

Unplug the ethernet cord from it, it should skip it. _________________

Tried that, the message still pops up and doesn't go away..
He said he tried to register 4 XBOX Live on the modded box with his XBOX 360 Live account, it wasn't wrking so he unplugged the ethernet and put it back into the 360, switched off the modded box, and didn't touch it after that.
Before I left 4 school we just got XBOX Live, (I had the XBOX softmodded before this) and he got his XBOX 360 shortly after..
Could the message be a result of being banned from XBOX Live by trying to connect w/a modded box??

Now are u saying that you are trying to put the 360 gamertag on the original xbox as well? If thats the case you would need to take the softmods off, get the account on it, and then softmod it again. To fix the live update thing, you might want to try a hotswap, it may get rid of it looking for the update. _________________
Yesterday I wanted 2 attempt to recover my valuable savegames, but today I don't care anymore..I'll settle for a reformatted box with the original dash back, and just softmod it again..
What hotswap method would you reccomend??
Just as a reminder: I get this update message immediatley after the microsoft logo comes up, and I CANNOT get 2 my dash..

I'm not really familiar with the hotswap method since I havent had to do it yet. If you search the forums and tutorials you may beable to find something useful though. _________________

Good news..I think I may have discovered my xbox's IP address by pinging..
My xbox was on and connected to my pc via crossover cat5 and I was using command prompt to ping it
I went into control panel/networkconnections and set tc/ip to "obtain ip address automatically."
I pinged and pinged but kept getting "request timed out."
Finally i got a reply from "192.168.1.1"
Is is my xbox IP?
Is there anyway to identify your xbox's IP address if it is connected and on besides pinging?
If so I'm using flash fxp and I have downloaded the latest ms dash onto my desktop..

Uh, sorry to kill your hopes and dreams, but any LAN IP ending in x.x.x.1 is your Router or whatever you have IF you aren't connected to the internet from the cable box itself. Otherwise, with a crossover, it may be your computer, or if your lucky it's the xbox.
