Well i got a V1.0 xbox today, and it has a philips DVD drive in it. The problem is, when your press eject the drive gets stuck and doesn't come out. Then you must hit the top of the box(where the drive is) to make it come out. Anyway to fix this without breaking the xbox everytime to get it out? _________________

Back in the old days, and on PC drives, this used to happen because of the following reasons:
Button connection was loose or actual connection was dirty.
The drive cogs were too dirty.
Drive rails were too dry and needed oiling.
I mean all of these are things you can do and service yourself, but it will mean taking the drive out and removing the cover of the drive. If you feel happy to do it though, why not give it a go. Just don't cut any ribbons or poke the laser or something, lol.

Here is the weird thing lol, if i take off the metal case and just have drive, it pops out fine. When i put the top part of the cover back on it sticks. Why is this lol? _________________

Have fun removing the drive cover.lol
I have had to open a couple of DVD drives that have had things stuck in them, namely those little foam rings that come on top of your stack of CD's or DVD's.
Can get pretty tuff trying to push all those clips in at the one time or at least enough so it comes apart, you almost need an extra set of hands
Just a thought, but sounds a little like the pressure on the DVD drive maybe making the try jam. When the box is screwed up it may force some pressure on the DVD drive. Have you tried just placing the case on without doing up any screws? There are tags that stick up on top the tray inside, maybe one is catching. If thats the case the tray would open about the thickness of the faceplate then jam. _________________ xbox v1.2

It seems like, atleast on mine, the tray is getting caught on something. I guess I'll just take it apart one of these days and see whats up with it. I've taken apart quite a few drivs, PC and XBOX (all 3 brands), and havent had any trouble getting them apart or back together. _________________

They're pretty easy to take apart / put back together. Just 4 small screws on the underside hold the top cover on and with it of, you can get to pretty much any part you need inside.
If the tray opens when you have the top off, either something is catching or like lodgey said, you've got pressure from the top forcing the tray from being level. Try flexing the top part of the cover up a bit, so you have the tiniest bit of bend (not too much though otherwise you won't be able to slide the cover back on the drive) and lightly replace the screws. If that works, tighten a bit more, until they're all done up.
Remember, with the screws only lightly done up you'll get a lot of vibration noise when the drive spins.
Good 2 know the xbox dvd rom is quite simple to work on.
I pulled a Liteon DVD apart quite some time ago and to my surprise it was only a liteon on the outside. Under the cover was a DRU - 120A sony drive.
Goes to show that cheaper brand names are not always made of cheap parts. The drive wasn't reading disks but after removing the foam ring that was wrapped around the laser all was back to normal.
Sorry it doesn't help your problem dartht33bagger but just thought I'd share that bit of info. _________________ xbox v1.2

Fixed it. I had to break the little metal tabs off the top cover because it was pressing the drive down causing it to stick...that was an easy fix _________________
