Just wanted to clarify ... is it possible to use a larger hard drive on a softmodded Xbox or do I need a modchip to do that? If it's possible, what's the size limit? I'm currently using SID 3.1 nkpatcher to mod my box.

Thanks,
Harry

P.S. Does it matter if the drive supports locking or not?

You can upgrade HDD in a softmodded Xbox with no problems at all and do not require a modchip to do so.

As for size limits, you can afford it, it can take it! On drives over 120GB though you'll have to use something like Xbpartioner to make sure all of your HDD is utilised.

As a "best practice" its always better to lock the HDD.

I would not use any drive larger than about 320G unless you manually change your cluster size.

Further, a softmod HDD HAS to be locked. its not just best practice, its necessary to boot the machine
