So far, every xbox hard drive i have owned and installed has locked up strangely and been unuseable (except for my factory xbox drive). My Segate Baracuda 80 gb locked up but was recovered (my cousins died unrecoverable though), and my ever-so-recently-purchased WD Caviar 200 Gb has locked up twice since i've had it, which both times i was forced to reformat. I am considering returning the WD, but the fact that all my drives have locked up the same way (with teh same setup each time) seems a bit of a coincidence... I would like to see if it is possible to fix my problem before i send the drive back.
My current setup is:
1.6 NTSC XBOX
Moddified LG DVD drive 8164
WD Caviar 200 gb (unlocked)
SMARTXX v2 4308 update
Bios: M8_16 "moddified" (boots F:\Apps\XBMC\default.xbe\ instead of C:\evoxdash.xbe) (also setup for LBA28_06 "All free space to F Partition"
debug.256k.yoshi.k2005.v16 (debug)
Dash:
XBMC-SVN_2007-02-16_rev7841-T3CH-MC360
Additional notes:
I use Slayer's auto Installer 1.6 to reformat and prepare the harddrive.
I have yet to try AID 3.10 but i have heard nothing but positive comments on it. i think the problem is with the hard drive prep but i'm not sure...

Couple things I would try:
Don't use M8. M8 is the suck, and much less stable than the X2 bioses.

Ok i will try X2 bios, and repartition the drive with LBA28_67 setting (F&G).
What version of X2 should i get? Will X2 Bios work on a SmartXX v2?
EDIT: Nevermind i found X2.5035 and Config maker.
