I used the SID4 for the softmod. Used FXP but now CXbox Tool because it is faster. Used the Xboxhdm to ready the new Seagate hdd and everything apparently went smoothly. I put the new 120Gb hdd in my Xbox and power it on. The MS Dash comes up first so I assume that I need to resoftmod. After resoftmoding. The folders look like this

Hard disk security Lock enabled
free space on C: 0
free space on E: 4.514.315.156
free space on F: 108.368.348.159
etc....

I am not able to move the back-up ms dash to the C: or free up more space for it. What should I do because most games cannot run without the ms dash on the C? As you can see there is currently nothing in the drive and no space available to add anything.

I double checked and I used the C: and E: and the eeprom.bin properly in my burn iso for the Xboxhdm ver 2.0. Would not the ms dash have to be in the C: when I first booted with my new hdd for the ms dash to boot up or could it have found the ms dash in the E:\Backup? I softmod again exactly like I did the first time around so I am now at my wits end. Thank you.

Thanks a ton for the follow-up!

I have EvoX 3935 installed using the SID4 Knaive editiion. I used option 1 in the SID so I cannot get back to the SID with my EvoX dash. I am only able to use the 3935 which does not have the sys config or utilites like the older versions.

I just do not know how to add space to the C: or put the MS dashboard on it. I am afraid to take out the 120G hdd and try the Xboxhdm iso disk in my pc again with that hdd because that hdd is locked and when I tried to use that iso burned cd-rw again it did not allow me to do the 1. option-- 'create hdd from scratch.'

Also, for FTP-- I use FXP and also CXboxtools.

I do not have AID nor any materials associated with that. Would that be compatible since I used SID instead?

No that is fine, all you have to do is download AID and then boot it in your Xbox when you get to the main menu select format/prepare HDD then format the C drive and then go to the dashboard section and install MS dash.

AID is one beefy program! Should I use the ms dash that will be included with the AID .iso or should I substitute my original ms dash backup that I have saved on my pc so as to avoid any bios and E: incompatibility with my Xbox? My Xbox is one of the orginials. The manufacture date is 11/16/01. (The dvd drive is getting buggy which is why I decided to mod it instead of ditch it in the first place). Thanks again!

Use the one on the disk and DON'T forget to resoftmod it B4 you turn it off..
Cos you can resoftmod it with the aid disk too... and backup your eeprom and ms dash....hopethis helps.. Smile

1. format large HDD.
2. put ms dash in C drive using Aid disk.
3. make backup of ms dash form Aid disk.
4. backup eeprom.
5.softmod xbox with sid 4.5 using one click install.
Done.
just don't turn it off till your done..

Thanks, Robbieboy. I have burned the .iso and am ready to go. I have read through the manual and on pg 24 noticed the XBpartitioner. When I read the XBpartitioner.txt, it seemed like it could do the trick. Would I be able to just increase the partition size for the C:, then reformat just the C: and then add the ms dash to the C: folder? I just want to make sure that this would not have any adverse affects on anything else. Thanks. (holy cow, my xbox's thompson dvd drive sounded like it was dying trying to read a memorex cd-rw 1x-4x, but it finally read it on the third try)

I formated the large hdd. I put the ms dash on the c: from the aid. But when I backed up the ms dash from the aid, it froze at 89%. I can only assume that it is okay to turn off my machine and just use the old-fashioned sid4.5 installer technique using the saved game hack to put the EvoX back in the E drive? I am not sure if I need to take any precautions or use a better approach. Thanks for all of the help!

...A new day. I think my hdd needs to be removed now. After it froze up at 89%, I gave it all night to do something. But I turned it off this morning in fear of burning out.
I was able to get back into the AID, I backup-ed my eeprom and 'MS dash from aid' successfully. When I went to do the 'one click install' of the SID4.5, I was prompted to unistall the SID from my C: in another section of the AID before I continue. I did this. At the end this process, my xbox got rebooted. Upon reboot, the initial AID menu would flash on my screen for a split second and then disappear for a few minutes and then flash on my screen again -- this loop went all morning until I finally turned off the xbox. Now, when I turn on the xbox, I cannot boot the AID disk nor does my ms dash (or EvovX) show up. I am not sure if I need to take out my hdd and use this unlock tool www.hddunlock.com that Hellblazer55 mentioned in other posts. I did create a 'locking/unlock utilites' 3.5" floppy when I did the xboxhdm 'build the hdd from scratch' with the .iso cd-rw.

I might be messing up, but at least I am learning a lot. Thanks for your support.

Ok Just pop your HDD back on your comp and use Xboxhdm to unlock, re-format and build it then lock it again...

then you should be back to a standerd Xbox again then install sid the normal way...

oh by the way try to use a diffrent make of dc-r to burn your aid disk cos when i done mine the first time it kept freezing too......

Hope you get there mate..

i unlocked the hdd using the boot floppy and it worked, but when I reinstalled it and used sid4.5, the C: was missing (zero space with no ms dash) again... do you think I need to change how I have my hdd configured--

master
slave
cable select- what I currently have it on.

I figured out what went wrong. When I put in the new 120Gig Hdd after using Xboxhdm, I had to softmod with SID4.5 using the Splinter Cell exploit. Everything went well with this except for the very last part where it reboots and a black screen is supposed to pop-up (with a picture of a black and white xbox right in the middle) and say something like "the softmod installation was successful, but there is one final step of putting the msdash back on the C:" then you see the msdash being loaded on the C: drive... This last step did not happen when I used the Splinter Cell exploit, but only happened when I used AID 'one click install' for SID4.5. Makes me scratch my head as to why it happen correctly with my original 8Gig hdd, but skips this last step with the new 120Gig Hdd. There must have been something in the C: or E: folder that I put I my Xboxhdm burn cd-rw that prevented this last step from occurring with the new 120 Gig hdd.
