Those of you that know me from this site know that I am an avid xenium fan and have done numerous xenium installs. Today I encountered my first problem with a xenium. Quite frankly I spent 8 hours f'ing with a friends xbox which I expected to only take a half hour. Heres the deal: Did a solder installation on my friends 1.3 with the pinheader...popped the chip in and it gives me a frag...after numerous rechecking of the points I decide to see if my chip works on the pinheader...it does so I know my soldering works....just to double check to I put his gold in my box and it frags as well.....I read on the xenium site to make a recovery disk...so at that point im willing to try anything but it didnt work no matter if i did it in my xbox or his...I don't get to the xenium screen or nothing I just get a black screen no matter if the chip is in recovery mode or not and it does the imframous on off on off on frag....I am going to be posting the same thing on the xenium site once my account activates but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas..also, have there been any reports of fake xenium golds???...or just a good chance I got a bad chip...Thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.6

yoshie
the recovery process seems a little picky from CD/DVD. Firstly DVD's tend to work better, you must also use the settings as stated no joliet, 8.3 file naming, etc.
if your xbox is working though try this.
FTP the xenium OS 2.3.1 HDD recovery.bin file to the root of the xbox E drive.
put the Gold in recovery mode and boot the xbox, it should recover from the HDD. Watch the eject led status. the box will FRAG eventually and the chip led will cycle it colours then it will shut down.
Put the chip in normal mode and boot, what happens

I ftp'd the recovery.bin file for hdd to my hdd's e directory....then i inserted my friends chip in my xbox and received the same frag....the chip remains red and does not cycle through colors or shut off my xbox...just to make sure I ftp'd correctly I decided to update my chip...I popped mine in my box and it worked so I know the file was in there correctly which leads me to believe I have a bad chip...any other ideas....by the way, thanks for all the help. _________________ Xbox V1.6

Divineo.com.....but its past the 60 day warranty...bummer for this kid, I think he is totally turned off on xenium's now after I talked about liking mine so much....do the gold's go bad a lot?...I had numerous white xeniums that every one worked flawlessly...maybe poor rushed construction on the gold?....thanks for your help pezzar...I would have posted on the teamxodus forum but I never got my confirmation email and am having trouble signing up....and other crazy ideas you might have to fix the chip (even soldering on the chip even though it doesn't seem to be burnt anywhere?)...thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.6

I don't think I did anything with the hdd....but it shouldn't matter since the update worked with my chip in and when I switched the gold into my box to do the same update it did not work.....therefore, I am guessing that the chip is bad unless you have any other ideas. Am I correct in that asumption and that many xenium gold chips are faulty. I read on the teamxodus forums that many people have had problems with their gold chip versus the old white or blue ones. _________________ Xbox V1.6

most installation problems i have seen tend to be pilot error.
having said that you are very experienced and know what ur doing so it could be you have a bad chip
on a v1.6 xbox the hdd needs to be unlocked when recovering from hdd

Ahh...my hdd must be unlocked as it is then since I do have a 1.6 but when I put my white chip in it worked just fine updating to the new OS but when I put his in it simply sat there and fragged and did not do what my chip did. I know I installed it correctly and did not put it in backwards or anything of that sort. Are the bad chips typically just a point that is soldered incorrectly (since I could solder it or fix it if possible) or are they simply completely bad and should be thrown away (kinda rough throwing 50 bucks in the trashcan). Thanks. _________________ Xbox V1.6
