You're in luck. The eeprom info is stored on the chip
I used this one time to build a softmod HDD for a friend. I backed up my eeprom to the X3, updated my xbox with his eeprom via FTP, and put his hdd in. Then when I was done building it, I restored my eeprom from the chip, and put my HDD back in. It all worked sweet. So I guess this suggests that the eeprom backup is on the chip _________________

Do you have write protect turned off on the X3 chip and the dip switch on front? If write protect is on it will give you the filesize error.
