Ok, im helping a friend mod his xbox, he used a modchip the first time but it failed miserably, the daughter board shorted out AKA mother board. He ordered a new board and the modchip is installed onto it. Now we come up with this error 6 and somthing about needing to unlock the HDD before he can continue. Should we try using the Xboxhdm procedure for "creating a new HDD from scratch" or is their a way to keep all his info and just simply unlock the HDD and go about our business? Also I remember a TUT about desoldering the cmos chip or somthin along the lines of that and resolder it into the new motherboard (replacing the new cmos chip) and being able to use the HDD with the new board without having to do anything else?

basically i need to be able to use the modded xbox with the same HDD but a new board.

Correct me if im wrong but plz help either way :p

That's a pictures of the eeprom chip. It's at the top of the motherboard by the Ethernet port and the Fan plug. The ONLY catch is; the motherboards HAVE TO BE THE SAME VERSION. I think 1.1's and 1.0's are interchangable, and 1.2's and 1.3's, but you CANNOT use a 1.6 on ANY other xbox motherboard. Other than that, you're going to need an EEPROM backup of the old hard drive key to use the XBHDM method; or you can use this tutorial from llamma:

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Reading_Xbox_Hdd_key.htm

Those are pretty much your two options. Or, boot off bank 2 of the chip with the hard drive attached on the new board. If you see a blue screen, then you should be able to use the "Unlock Hard Drive" option. Then reboot with bank one. If that works, then you're good as well. Then just boot back to Bank 2 and "Lock Hard Drive" and it should be locked to the new board.
