Over the weekend, I softmodded 3 Xboxs using my friends softmodded Xbox (hotswap). I need to be able to run the Slayer's CD to fix another box, but none of the ones I made will run a burned ISO. Two of the three Xboxs even have Samsung drives in them. The box that I modded them off of runs Slayers just fine off the CD, but these tell me that the CD tray is empty. I'm trying to do this without having to go to that friend's house again and use his box to load Slayers. I can't figure out why these ones won't play it...... Can anyone give me some suggestions as to why these freshly softmodded Xboxs fail to run burned CDs? Because I'm lost.....

You only need one topic. I went ahead and deleted the other one. If need be just bump this one.

I dno't know anything about softmods so I really can't help.

P.s. this is XHQ, We don't fully support SLayers installer, do yourself a favor and get Aid 3.10 (Auto Installer Deluxe)
http://www.aideluxe.com/

Available through bit torrent. Other than that good luck with your problem man.

Thanks for the info. I've been out of the modding scene for a long time now, so I hadn't heard about it. However, whatever program I chose to use, I still am unable to load burned CDs on my Xboxs. Is there something I'm missing? A setting? A missing file possibly?

Try different media. CD-R's don't really work, but the CD+Rs and such

http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Compatibility

Check that out and see if your media holds up[/quote]

And when you burn, are you mounting the image to the disc or just burning the .iso file?

Yes, I know for a fact that the iso was burned right, and that the CD is flawless as I've run the same CD on another Xbox without a problem. The problem is somewhere within the Xbox. I even tried to burn another copy for good measure. Nothing..... Anyone even had this problem before?

Oh sorry I ignored your question there. I use PowerISO to burn my ISOs, which automatically mounts and burns the ISO for me. Great prog.

Ok. I will throw my hat in, mind you I am known around here to not be the biggest softmod fan (i just prefer hard mods, I really enjoy the soldering).

You said the 2 box's that wouldn't read both have samsungs?

Whats the drive in the box that works?

As far as i would guess, you might need to tweak the potentiometer on the Samsungs to get them reading the disc. Or try burning it to a dvd or a different brand of media completely.

I can't see the bios not allowing it to load or anything of a software nature.

Its definitely seems like a hardware thing

Ya, that's what I though, but they're Samsungs..... Both of them. I can't possibly have problems physically on both drives. And the one that actually plays it is a Phillips as well as the third box that I modded, so I'm just totally confused. I also tried to burn it onto another brand CDR that I had laying around and same result. I'm going to go out after work and buy a few DVDRs, but I don't think they'll make a difference.

Most drives don't like CD-Rs unless they are tweaked, it could very easily be the issue.

Just make sure that if you get DVDs your getting a good brand of DVD-R, not +R, as -R are usually more compatible.

My burner only burns DVD+R which sucks then, but I'll still try it none the less. Still though, I just got back from lunch at work, and i stopped by my other friend's house to try the Slayer's CD in his box, and it worked.... Same CDR, and I know nothing special has been done to his Xbox because I softmodded that one myself about a year ago.

All I run are +R's, my old dell wouldn't burn -R, and i just get +R's for my mac now anyway

The phillips is pretty good at being an all around format reader (except cd-r).

I've burned Sony , Compusa brand, Phillips and a few other +R's without any problems whatsoever.

But i have 2 hitachi-lg's, but my old thomson would read them without problems, so i think you should be good. Add some nes roms or something to bulk up the disc to make you feel like you didn't waste it.

Hey I do appreciate the quick responses here. I posted this question both here and on Xbox-scene.com and I've yet to get one response there.

They don't like to help common problems, its seems like they only want to address unique or developing issues.

Plus all they do is push an (until recently) an intensely old auto installer, which was pointless for it to go so long without update b/c those who download it would just have to get the programs individually and ftp them over. Defeats the purpose of an autoinstaller.

DJB (AID author) here says that there are issues with the TSOP flashing (doesn't recognize different sized banks) and could brick an xbox.
