Gearbox Software has announced that Borderlands 2 for Xbox 360 will receive a patch to combat hacking in the game.

Gearbox Software said that it will issue the update as "soon as possible" after being informed of an external application sabotaging user accounts.

Borderlands 2 Screenshot"After extensive internal testing, an update to prevent this disruption has been submitted to Microsoft and will be released as soon as possible," said community manager Chris Faylor.

"Until then, concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions. This does not affect players on PC or PlayStation 3."

The studio also recommended selecting the 'save and quit' option before exiting the game.

"If after the death of their character players find themselves at the main menu of Borderlands 2 instead of respawning in-game, be sure to immediately select 'Continue' to resume playing as that character," Faylor added.

Released last month, Borderlands 2 was the biggest-selling launch of the year until the release of FIFA 13.
