Japanese PSP Skype Service Delayed

Certification problems have delayed the Japanese launch of free voice-over-IP service Skype for PSP.

Kotaku reports that the Japanese launch of Skype for PSP, originally due to hit in late-January, has been pushed back to an unspecified date because Sony's official microphone components failed to meet Skype's requirements, although the delay won't affect Western consumers. According to Sony, the Japanese delay "will make no difference to the European and USA launch, which will coincide with the end of January firmware upgrade".

There are currently over 246 million members registered for the use of the free voice-over-IP (VOIP) service, which allows users to make free voice calls to one another over the internet, amongst numerous other features. A more detailed list of Skype features, from Sony’s original announcement of the service for PSP, can be viewed here.
