A Virginia man already believed to be facing theft charges in Portsmouth, Va., is now facing a host of charges in Elizabeth City following what police say was a foiled heist at the Wal-Mart Supercenter Saturday.

Police say Keto Emmanuel Satterwhite, 23, of 827 Mount Vernon Ave., Portsmouth, was arrested after stealing four Xbox remote game controllers from the Wal-Mart, threatening a store employee with a knife and leading the employee on a chase from the store.

Satterwhite is charged with misdemeanor larceny, possession of stolen goods and assault with a deadly weapon. He was released from Albemarle District Jail on a $1,000 secured bond.

According to police, Satterwhite was leaving the Wal-Mart Supercenter without paying for the Xbox controllers when he was confronted by Eric McElmurray, a store loss prevention agent. Satterwhite, according to his arrest warrant, brandished a pocket knife and swung it at McElmurray, who was not injured in the altercation.

Satterwhite then fled the store, with McElmurray in pursuit. According to police, McElmurray chased Satterwhite across the Wal-Mart parking lot and then across Halstead Boulevard Extended into a farm field. Satterwhite was apprehended by police officer Jaime Goins.

The stolen merchandise, which had a total value of $200, was recovered, police said.

Local and corporate Wal-Mart officials declined to comment Tuesday about the company?s policies and procedures for dealing with shoplifters.

Satterwhite, who reportedly is an employee of the Norfolk shipyard, may also be facing theft charges in Virginia.

According to Norfolk-based WVEC-TV?s Web site, WVEC.com, Portsmouth police have charged a Keto E. Satterwhite, 23, of the 800 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, with stealing five global positioning systems from a Portsmouth Wal-Mart in November. Satterwhite allegedly was one of three men who, using a key, opened a glass case at the store and stole five GPS systems worth more than $1,000, the television station reported.

Portsmouth police Tuesday declined to discuss the charges against Satterwhite. However, the state of Virginia?s District Court Web site states that a Keto E. Satterwhite is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth General District Court Feb. 20 on charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny and conspiracy for an offense committed Nov. 8.

Portsmouth police are still searching for the other two suspects in the November Wal-Mart theft.
