A recent New York Times interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the DS will soon be receiving “complete” game downloads, but Nintendo tells Next-Gen that the report was inaccurate.

"An article about the Nintendo DS videogame system in the December 31 Business Day section (of the NYT) incorrectly referred to future capabilities of the device," said a Nintendo rep in an e-mail. "The statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company's Wii game console is incorrect.

"Users can download games to play on Wii, and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off."

The feature is similar to what the DS has already seen, as users have in the past been able to download demos from designated DS download kiosks, but not from a Nintendo Wii.

Consumers will, however, soon be able to download extra content for DS games. Level-5’s upcoming puzzler Professor Layton and the Curious Village, slated for February, will allow users to download new puzzles.
