Microsoft is set to splash £4 million on UK Xbox 360 marketing this holiday season, matching the funds SCE UK is channeling into its Christmas marketing blitz.

With the Xbox 360 entering the crucial Christmas period competing against Sony’s PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii for the first time in the UK, Microsoft is preparing to spend £4 million on TV and other media promotions, reports MCV.

The platform holder hopes its broad portfolio of titles for Xbox 360 will ensure the console appeals to a wide audience.

“We’re spending over £4 million in the UK this festive season talking about how, with over 300 games on Xbox 360 this Christmas, there really is something for everyone,” said Stephen McGill, Microsoft UK’s head of gaming and entertainment.

“Whilst we pride ourselves on offering the very best titles for a devoted gaming audience, we also have a number of titles that literally anyone can pick up and play. This campaign is all about our broadening message in the run-up to Christmas.”

Sony Computer Entertainment UK is also ploughing a similar figure into its PlayStation 3 marketing efforts this holiday season. It is currently running a campaign flagged by a new TV advertisement dubbed ‘The Entertainers’ which aims to highlight the multiple technological capabilities of the PS3.
