Japan Charts: DS Tops 100,000, PS3 Beats Wii For Month

Market research firm Media Create has revealed data for weekly hardware sales in Japan for the week ending November 25th, following details of the software top thirty.

With software sales at a recent high, hardware sales have also increased across the board this week, although as ever the Nintendo DS remains the best selling console in Japan. Helped by the success of Dragon Quest IV, the console saw sales increase by over 40,000 units to 116,694.

Despite not a single game in the entire top software top thirty, PSP sales increased by just under 10,000 units to an impressive total of 75,027. The Wii also saw a significant surge in sales, up over 18,000 units to 54,362.

After a dip last week, PlayStation 3 sales also rose, up over 11,000 units to 50,564. Although the console only managed to outsell the Wii for two weeks, the PlayStation 3’s total sales during November still exceed that of the Wii – in what has been an important month for Sony’s console in Japan.

With three titles in the top ten PlayStation 2 sales rose by 6,000 units to 14,875. The Xbox 360’s gains were more modest, up just over 500 units to 7,117. The Game Boy Advance family of consoles was the only to register a fall this week, dropping below a hundred units for the first time at 82.
