Church Cross About Resistance BAFTA Nomination following cathedral controversy "rubs salt in the wounds", according to church official.

UK, October 8, 2007 - You may remember the big hoo-hah earlier this year surrounding the Church of England's claim that a section in alien-based WWII shooter Resistance: Fall of Man desecrated Manchester Cathedral. Well, now the controversy's been stirred up once more, thanks to Resistance's nomination in the BAFTA's Gamers' Award.

Dean of Manchester Cathedral, the Very Rev Rogers Govender, has called for BAFTA to scrap the nomination, one of seven in the PC World Gamers' Award, as reported by The Guardian newspaper.

According to the Very Rev Rogers Govender, "There was disgust at the virtual desecration of Manchester Cathedral. We asked Sony to sign up to some digital guidelines, asking them to respect our sacred places of prayer ... Sony's response was very limited and other churches, cathedrals and historic buildings may be at risk of exploitation."

He continued, "I plead with BAFTA to send a signal to the industry and to Sony and withdraw Resistance: Fall of Man from the nominations". A church official added that the nomination is like "rubbing salt in the wound" and that the row only helped the game sell more copies.

In June, Sony apologised for using a likeness of the cathedral in the game without permission, noting it never to cause offense.
