Microsoft's Tokyo Xbox Lounge became Parking Lot

After perusing our giant PSP dismantling post yesterday, reader Steve dropped word on the current condition of the Xbox Lounge in Tokyo's Aoyama. During the 360 launch in Japan, a giant green-cake dispensing hub was erected. During the World Cup, it was converted into a soccer cafe. And today? It's a parking lot. Writes Steve:

I know it was only temporary to begin with, but man, a parking lot? At that intersection? It's like Japan salts the earth wherever the Xbox has touched... If you look really hard in the fine print, they are going to build a Kinokuniya there in 2008. Which isn't as much fun for hating on the Xbox in Japan, but good news for that intersection, so get your 24 hour parking done while you can.

I've always kind of felt that Microsoft should have kept the Xbox Lounge open permanently, like a Nintendo World Store. (Yes, I know it would be a money pit, and yes, the console has yet to match its American sales numbers.) More parking in Tokyo is always a good thing anyway. And a new bookstore, yippie skippy.
