Sony responds to Mark DeLoura's departure.

Confirming the news, Sony released the following statement to us this afternoon.

Yes, Mark DeLoura, SCEA's manager of developer relations, has left the company; J. Patton will continue to oversee the company's developer relations team.

The best and brightest development teams are hard at work creating familiar franchises and original IP for the PS3 including EA, Konami, Sega, Rockstar, Activison and our own internal studios just to name a few.

To date we have shipped more than 10,000 development systems to 208 companies in 11 countries, the largest number ever for a PlayStation platform.

ORIGINAL STORY: As the launch date for PlayStation 3 moves closer, many eyes are focused on Sony and their every move. This morning, Gamasutra broke news that Sony Computer Entertainment America's manager of director relations Mark DeLoura is leaving the company for a new technical director position at Ubisoft's San Francisco studio.

Sony has not yet responded for an official response to the move, nor has DeLoura himself made his reasons public. Employee shifts aren't uncommon during the strenuous lead up to a console launch, but combined with the recent departure of senior director of communications Molly Smith, you can't help but wonder what's really going on inside Sony's walls.
