The Turtles return for another videogame featuring ninja shenanigans.

Today at the San Diego Comic-Con, Ubisoft announced it is creating a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game based on the upcoming CGI feature-length film. Currently titled TMNT, the game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, renowned for making Splinter Cell and famed for eating lots of pizza.

Though the game features the same four turtles fans grew to love in the cartoon show and subsequent live-action films, the game takes its inspiration from the comic-book version of the heroes in a half shell. The comic, by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, was originally intended as a spoof, but the book quickly turned serious. Despite having characters named after Renaissance artists(who happen to be ninjas and turtles), the comic was known for high drama and, at times, heavy introspection from its leads.

Ubisoft offered no concrete details about the game, offering only vague hints that the turtles would be battling an evil that threatened the city. However, Ubisoft did release a trailer, which included some tidbits on how the game will mirror the movie.

Creators from Imagi and Mirage Studios have been tapped to ensure TMNT remains true to the movie (and therefore the comic book). No consoles were specified in the release, but Ubisoft did assure that TMNT was coming for current and next-gen systems. Look for it to hit shelves on March 30, 2007, to coincide with the release of the movie from Imagi Animation Studios.
