What Happened To BloodRayne?

There were plenty of people looking forward to the release of BloodRayne. Maybe because they were hoping for a movie in line with the quality we've come to expect from director Uwe Boll based on The House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark or simply looking for some naked Kristanna Loken action.

Either way, despite chatter amongst gamers, the rest of the world couldn't have cared less. Box Office Mojo reports that BloodRayne opened to a dismal $1.5 million its opening weekend, failing to crack the top 10 and barely holding onto a top 20 spot.

Opening in less than half of the theaters Boll originally hoped for, the Boll-proclaimed period piece didn't far much better in the following weekends. More than 600 theaters dropped the movie after the first weekend that lead to a weekend gross of only around $288,000 - an 81.4% drop from the weekend before. Ouch.

This upcoming weekend will in all likelihood be your last chance to check out BloodRayne in theaters, and that's if you're lucky (depending on your definition of luck). This past weekend reportedly only 56 theaters were carrying the film, resulting in another staggering 93.6% box office drop that generated roughly only $18,000 in ticket sales.

With a production budget of $25 million and marketing costs apparently reaching at least $22 million, BloodRayne has barely made $2.4 million dollars in the three weeks it's been in wide release. Of course, the worldwide markets have yet to open, but somehow I doubt the situation's going to be much brighter for the poor doctor.
