Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification has revoked classification of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, rendering the game unfit for retail, advertisment, or distribution in the country.

Take-Two Interactive said that the OFLC decision was expected and that the financial impact will not alter the company's recent announced guidance.

"The content unlocked by a third party 'hot coffee' modification contained material that could not be accommodated at the (prior) MA15+ classification," said the OFLC in a statement.

The company added that the European rating of 18+ for San Andreas will not be affected by the OFLC or ESRB re-rating in the U.S.

The decision is another blow to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive for a hidden sex mini game known as 'Hot Coffee' that was included in retail copies of the Mature-rated San Andreas. The recent assigning of an Adults Only rating caused retailers nationwide to pull the game from store shelves, citing policies to not sell games rated 'AO'.

The announcement also follows a lawsuit against Take-Two Interactive from a grandmother who purchased San Andreas for her grandson without knowledge of the hidden sexual content.

Hot Coffee has cause a stir of controvery among politicans and media groups for the hidden sexual romp that can be access through a download on PC or through a third-party code device on the PS2.

Take-Two estimates that the retail recall will cost up to $50 million in sales as the company readies a version without the Hot Coffee code. That version is expected to be released in the fourth quarter.
