Post subject: Inconsistent network behaviour...

Hi.

I've softmodded my xbox, upgraded the HD and successfully got it running unleashx+ndure and xbmc. I can access the internet from xbmc (and read my samba shares).

I have also FTPd 80 gigs of files over to the new HD from the PC.

BUT. I load up FlashFXP and FTP over to the xbox (running either unleashx or xmbc) and it loses the connection after a few minutes of 'doing something'. That is, like renaming, moving around to look at files, whatever...

When that happens, I can't ping the xbox either. Although a reboot usually gets it all working okay. If I do the same, the same thing happens.

Any ideas why it would be working so well, and then just stop working, for no apparent reason after a few minutes?

If I don't FTP into the box, the network stays up (and I can read the samba shares for hours). This inconsistent behaviour is actually driving me a little insane!

Any advice appreciated.

Just thought I'd add: So I power on the xbox. It loads into unleashx. I FTP in. Go into one of my video folders. And start renaming a few files. After 4 files I lose connection and cannot ping either.

I load up xbmc and it connects to the internet for rss and weather. I try FTPing again, and it lets me, but not allowed to rename.

Could my troubles be related to moving files around (and renaming them) on the xbox? Does it not like that?

Well I've been trying to work it out, and I think that it's a firewall issue. I've changed my firewall and I'll see if things improve...

or he could have encryption turned on which would be slowing down his transfers.

just a guess but certain frequency ranges require a licensing to use and certain ranges are open to free use don't know how much this has to do with it though

Actually it will sometimes if the HD is getting full, altough it was prolly a combo of the two causin it. I've only had it happen a few times and once I cleared the cache everything worked fine which is why I figured I'd suggest it. It prolly is the wireless connection though especially if you're a good distace from the router.

All true man but when you think about it 5.8ghz is an open range to work in but now home wireless phones are moveing into that range but a year or two back it was not being used at all.
