Ive scoured the internet for an answer to this problem. Ive seen posts on msg boards about it but never any replies to the question.
My xbox boots up incredibly slowly. The regular boot screen comes up quickly but then its a few minutes for the "xecuter2" logo to show up at the bottom of the screen, then a few more minutes and it goes to blank, then a few more minutes and XBMC finally comes up. The system seems to work fine after the really long boot up.
The only suggestion Ive seen for this problem was that the HD was fried becuase the larger HD run too hot for the xbox (i hadnt sped up my fan). That seemed like a reasonable explination. However, when I collected all of my files from the old HD before I replaced it it did not seem like there was any trouble with the drive (no transfer errors, no slow transfers, nothing unusal)
Im trying to replace the old HD with a new one at the moment and I even though I cant get the "Hard Drive Replace Image" iso to work in my box it still seems to be doing the same thing. The original splash screen runs fine but then 3/4th of the time there is a really long lag between that and the error 13/error 14 screens.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is.

How do you clear the cache on an old xbox? Wouldnt the cache not be an issue after I took out my older HD?

no, i got the machine second hand, already modded. I replaced the original 8 gig HD with a 250gig samsung. The set up worked fine 2 months.
As far a I can tell the proximate cause of this problem was that I had left my xbox on over night becuase I was ftping some tv shows to it. Thats what led me to believe it was strictly a HD overheating problem, but now im not so sure

Hmm maybe I had left it on all night becuase I paused a game and forgot it. Either way, I left the thing on all night.

In most cases whare the boot up time gets to long hdd replacement fixed it, so i wold try setting up the new hdd not cloneing the old one.
Get a copy of auto installer deluxe 4.10 from a bittorrent and do the install.
If that dont help the boot time post back, your chip may have got too hot from pulling the all nighter if you did not set the fan speed higher then the stock 20%.

You might even want to try replaceing the ide first just to make sure its not that.
If its the same price get a 166 ide it seemed to speed my hdd rates up.
