Hi all, question, i have my xbox connected to a HDTV via component leads, and mostly use xbmc, i have just downloaded a HDTV movie, the thing is, it's in the MKV format!!? Is there anyway that i am able to play this on the xbox and watch it on the hdtv?, I tend to stream all my movies via ethernet downstairs to the xbox, so thought it would be like a avi or xvid file, but i can't get it to work!!
Please any ideas would be great, and thanks in advance guys!!

MKV, thats matroska, isn't it? I'm pretty sure the latest versions of XBMC support the playback of this format, but I'm not 100%. Which build of XBMC are you using? _________________

Make sure that your XBMC is the latest version to ensure greatest chance of compatability.
The issue that may come across is that a mkv is not a video or audio compression codec but rather it allows you to store a bunch of different files in a single file.
Check here, there may be some extracting program that will put the files in a format accessibly by XBMC. _________________

Could be anything thats causing, I don't know for sure.
The version will be in one of the .txt files that accompanies the files. Mine is "XBMC CVS 2006-07-09 (9th of July 2006)" _________________

just a quick one to say i am none the wiser when it comes to playing back MKV files for HDTV playback, however some good news is that XBMC plays the xvid hdtv files, so am sticking with those!very good quality too!!
